E como se trata de gostos, cada um tem o seu. Então, a Dani pode amar a Anne Rice - o que é muito natural - e eu não gostar. E, neste caso, não gostar não se prende ao tipo de livro, em si, ou ao fato de ser um best-seller, livros que são "fabricados" para o sucesso.

Não tenho preconceito contra eles, não. E para comprovar, vou listar alguns autores que li e que gosto: Michael Crichton - que não é nenhuma maravilha no texto -, Robert Ludlum, o do Bourne, Frederick Forsyth, que tem um livro antológico, O Chacal, John Le Carré, o elegante inglês que cunhou o termo Guerra Fria, Noah Gordon e O Físico, Jack Higgins, com divertidas aventuras - inverossimeis, sim, como Azriel -, e por fim o polêmico Dan Brown com o seu Código Da Vinci. De qualquer forma, acho que eles escrevem melhor do que a Anne Rice.

Olhando-se a questão do lado da literatura, o livro de Anne Rice nãp e diferente de muitos outros, mas vende, e vende muito. E se isso ocorre é porque tem público, gente que gosta, e que se envolve com a história contada. Neste caso, entendo que os livros não são feitos para reflexão, mas para diversão. E se conseguem este intento, então sua leitura é válida.

Podemos criticar o livro, deixando claro que não gostamos, aliás, o que já fiz. Isso, no entanto, não desmerece sua indicação e sua esclha. Ao listar os livros, a Dani colocou a responsabilidade pela escolha nos integrantes do clube. E fomos nós que escolhemos O Servo dos Ossos. Havia, acho eu, uma expectativa diferente

Um dos aspectos, que já ressaltei, é o conflito entre ciência e religião. Mas há, também, um outro aspecto a se considerar, que é a própria religião. Nós, humanos, sempre buscamos uma explicação. E quando não a achamos colocamô-la nas mãos de uma entidade superior, dizendo que ela rege nossas vidas. Foi assim desde que descemos das árvores e não é diferente agora.

Ao longo dos tempos, os deuses foram se transformando em deuses pessoais, como Marduc, e nós os encarregamos de resolver nossos problemas, pelo menos aqueles que, por meios humanos, não conseguimos resolver. Neste diapasão, nada melhor do que um espírito poderoso ao nosso serviço. Comandando-o, seremos capazes de resolver as coisas que, de outra forma, não conseguriíamos, seja pela impossibilidade física, seja pelo constrangimeno ético e moral.

Acho que o que atrai no livro é exatamente esse envolvimento com o misterioso, com o sobrenatural, com a possibilidade de, ao invés de se curvar ao divino, colocá-lo ao seu serviço. Se não diretamente com Marduc, pelo menos com um espírito que, nascido com uma intenção malévola, não é nem moral, nem ético, já que realiza ações que, por estas óticas, são condenáveis, mas atende aos humanos, permitindo-lhes que tenham - pelo menos de forma aparente - um controle maior do sobrenatural.

A lição, no meu entender, é bastante clara: impotentes diante do mundo, recorremos ao alto, vendo nos deuses a solução dos nossos problemas. E por os termos tornado pessoais, queremos que eles resolvam questões específicas. E não importa, no final, se são verdadeiramente deuses ou espíritos, desde que estejam a nosso serviço.

dan brown,well, here's the gist of the four books : one world disasterous situation... a maiden and her faithful scientist... one high class dude who wants to save the maiden because of senti reasons... and lethal killing troupe who are ruthless and have no idea who their employer is :D

paulo coelho is what ma calls too intellectual... you need to see as he 'sees'... his writings are vague yet i find them enjoyable... kind brings in a deeper aspect to your soul if you want to understand his writing, that is...

the cracking codebook - the history of cryptology, the evolution of 'unbreakable' ciphers... lost fame and recognition and wit at its very best... a MUST read for anyone who enjoyed dan brown and also others, even otherwise :)

feluda - a bengali detective, class apart - satyajit ray's works of art come to life through his words :) ( though i'm reading the version translated to english cuz i ain't that fluent in bangla )

and... i met up with a lot of friends with whom i didn't think i'd ever meet up... painted bathroom tiles :) and kitchen tiles :) ceramic painting - the latest obsession for me :D

and ofcourse, conversations at 6pm :D

Além de alguns elementos narrativos próprios do gênero, como longas escapadas por ruas movimentadas e carros em alta velocidade, 'O Código Da Vinci' causou polêmica ao questionar a divindade de Jesus Cristo. Tal questionamento não é novidade, tendo o autor reavivado essa problemática na trama romanesca.

A maior parte do livro desenrola-se a partir do assassinato de Jacques Saunière, curador do museu do Louvre. Robert Langdon, Sophie Neveu e Leigh Teabing vivem várias aventuras ao tentar desvendar códigos que dêem resposta aos enigmas que Jacques Saunière deixou antes de morrer.

A trama do livro envolve desde grandes organizações católicas conservadoras como a Opus Dei, até a sociedade secreta conhecida como Priorado de Sião, que, de acordo com documentos encontrados na Biblioteca Nacional de Paris, possuía inúmeros membros famosos como Sir Isaac Newton, Botticelli, Victor Hugo e Leonardo da Vinci. Tem que se ter em conta que, apesar dos documentos apresentados serem considerados como verdadeiros em diversos livros que têm vindo a conquistar o mercado editorial nos últimos anos, existem especialistas que argumentam não passarem de falsificações.

Dan Brown diz partir de fatos reais na introdução, vários componentes da sua obra de ficção, como a existência do Priorado de Sião, as acusações que faz a respeito da Opus Dei, ou as descrições de obras de arte que incluiu no livro.

O maior organismo de investigação científica do mundo - o Conseil Européen pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN) - sedeado na Suiça, conseguiu recentemente produzir as primeiras partículas de antimatéria. A antimatéria é idêntica à matéria física, só que constituída por partículas cujas cargas eléctricas são opostas às que encontramos na matéria normal.

A antimatéria é a mais poderosa fonte de energia conhecida do homem. (...)

A antimatéria é altamente instável. (...)

Até há muito pouco tempo, só tinha sido possível criar antimatéria em pequeníssimas quantidades (uns poucos átomos de cada vez). Mas o CERN acaba de inaugurar uma nova era com o seu Desacelerador de Antiprotões - uma unidade de produção de antimatéria que promete criá-la em maior quantidade."

Vem isto a propósito de uma notícia sobre a espantosa experiência do LHC, o novo colisionador de partículas do CERN, o Laboratório Europeu de Física de Partículas situado em Genebra.

Após 14 anos de investigação e planeamento, e oito mil milhões de dólares,  o LHC prepara-se para produzir as primeiras colisões de protões agora em Julho, na tentativa de recriação das condições existentes no Universo, logo após o "Big Bang". Cinco mil físicos de todo o mundo, incluindo 50 portugueses, " vão tentar encontrar o elo perdido que permitirá esclarecer os enigmas que subsistem sobre o modo como a matéria se organiza no mundo e no Universo. Esse elo perdido é o bosão de Higgs, ou a partícula de Deus, como já lhe chamaram."

Ao recriar os primeiros segundos de vida do Universo, os investigadores vão tentar desvendar a forma como a matéria se organizou a partir daquele momento. 

Esta extraordinária experiência, contudo, não está isenta de desconfiança sobre hipotéticas  consequências trágicas que a manipulação de matéria instável e a incrível libertação de energia  poderão provocar: desde o aparecimento de buracos negros no próprio colisionador e consequências daí resultantes, até à criação de um buraco negro monstruoso que devoraria a própria terra!?...

 Dan Brown, na obra já referida, coloca o seu protagonista perante o LHC, uma vez que o enredo do livro anda à volta da descoberta e utilização indevida, dos poderes da antimatéria. "Robert Langdon", estupefacto, acaba por descrevê-lo:

"CAPÍTULO QUINZE

 (...) Langdon imaginou a escuridão do poço vazio por baixo deles. Tentou bloquear este pensamento olhando fixamente para o pequeno mostrador onde se sucediam em algarismos vermelhos o número dos pisos. Estranhamente, o painel tinha apenas dois botões: PISO TÉRREO e LHC.

- O que significa LHC? - perguntou, esforçando-se por não parecer nervoso.

- Large Hadron Collider - respondeu Kohler. - É um acelerador de partículas.

Acelerador de partículas? Langdon conhecia vagamente o termo. Ouvira-o pela primeira vez durante um jantar com alguns colegas na Dunster House, em Cambridge. Um dos menbros do grupo, um físico chamado Bob Brownell (...) explicara que um acelerador de partículas era um grande tubo circular ao longo do qual eram aceleradas partículas subatómicas. Ímanes distribuídos por toda a circunferência do tubo eram ligados e desligados em rápida sucessão de modo a "empurrarem" as partículas até que elas atingiam velocidades tremendas. Na aceleração máxima, as partículas circulavam pelo tubo a mais de duzentos e noventa mil quilómetros por segundo.

- Mas isso é quase a velocidade da luz! - exclamara um dos professores.

- Pois é - dissera Brownell. Explicara então que acelerando duas partículas em direcções opostas e fazendo-as colidir, os cientistas conseguiam decompô-las nas suas partes constituintes e ter um vislumbre dos componentes fundamentais da natureza.

- Os aceleradores de partículas - concluíra Brownell - são essenciais para o futuro da ciência. A colisão de partículas é a chave para a compreensão dos elementos com que foi construído o Universo.(...)

O CERN tem então um acelerador de partículas?, pensava Langdon enquanto o elevador continuava a descer. Um tubo circular para esmagar partículas. Perguntou a si mesmo por que razão o teriam enterrado tão fundo.

Quando a cabina se deteve com um ligeiro estremeção, ficou aliviado por voltar a sentir terra firme debaixo dos pés. Mas quando as portas se abriram, o seu alívio evaporou-se. Robert Langdon deu por si mais uma vez no limiar de um mundo totalmente alienígena.

O corredor estendia-se até ao infinito em ambas as direcções, para a direita e para a esquerda. Era um túnel de cimento liso, suficientemente largo para permitir a passagem de um camião de dezoito rodas. Brilhantemente iluminado no ponto onde se encontravam, tornava-se escuro como breu mais para diante. E daquela escuridão soprava um vento húmido - um perturbador sinal de que estavam nas profundezas da terra. (...)

- O tal acelerador de partículas, fica algures neste túnel? - pergunou Langdon, em voz baixa.

Kohler apontou para um refulgente tubo cromado que corria ao longo da parede interior do túnel.

- Aí o tem.

Langdon olhou para o tubo, confuso.

- Aquilo é o acelerador? - O artefacto não se parecia nada com o que imaginara. (...) - Pensava que os aceleradores de partículas eram circulares.

Fueron 90 días en los que los guionistas hollywoodenses pararon actividades. Esa huelga arrojó poco más de dos mil millones de dólares en pérdidas.

La recesión económica en Estados Unidos -mil y una veces negada por George W. Bush- también está presente en Hollywood. La revista Variety dice que la tasa de empleo ha bajado, que cayó el número de rodajes y que, en lo que va del año, aumentaron considerablemente las peticiones de actores afiliados al sindicato y que necesitan de una ayuda económica para sobrellevar la crisis.

Por ello, se habla de una posible huelga por parte de los actores. Según Variety, el sindicato no ha llegado a ningún acuerdo con la Alianza de Productores de Cine y Televisión (AMPTP).

La Federación Americana de Actores de Radio y Televisión (AFTRA) ya se separó del SAG (Screen Actors Guild) y pudo ponerse de acuerdo con los productores al menos en lo que atañe a la explotación de películas y a las regalías que les darán. Éste aún está sujeto a la votación de 70 mil miembros de sus sindicato de entre los que destaca Susan Sarandon: "44 mil (actores) son comunes a los dos sindicatos. Como actriz tengo que pertenecer a todos si quiero trabajar".

Figuras como Alec Baldwin, Tom Hanks, Kevin Spacey, George Clooney, Sally Field, Calista Flockhart y muchos más están urgiendo a los miembros del AFTRA para que acepten el acuerdo con los estudios, de esta manera el llamado a huelga por parte del SAG se debilitaría.

Por el otro bando, el del SAG, se sabe que Jack Nicholson, Ed Harris, Martin Sheen, Nick Nolte, Viggo Mortensen, Ben Stiller y Josh Brolin defienden a dicho sindicato a capa y espada, por lo que difieren de la propuesta del AFTRA.

La incertidumbre se ha apoderado de los círculos creativos y dramáticos de Hollywood. Algunas producciones ni siquieran han arrancado, mientras que otras aceleran sus pasos para que, en caso de estallar la huelga, la avancen lo más posible o, en el mejor de los casos, la terminen. En ese caso se encuentran Tom Hanks, quien está filmando Ángeles y Demonios, del polémico autor del Código DaVinci, y Sigourney Weaver que cuenta ya con la seguridad de que Crazy on the outside, título de su más reciente trabajo, se rodará haya o no huelga.

Acest roman s-a bucurat de un succes uluitor chiar imediat după data publicării, astfel încât foarte curând a început să facă ocolul lumii, vânzându-se in peste 7 milioane de exemplare doar în primul an. Drept urmare Columbia Pictures a cumpărat drepturile de a turna un film după această carte. Filmările au început deja, protagonist este Tom Hanks şi probabil filmul va fi gata spre sfârşitul anului acestuia. Codicele lui da Vinci este însă o carte destabilizatoare care, în loc să aducă lumină în gândirea oamenilor, lucru pe care autorul l-a intenţionat, o afundă pe aceasta mai mult în umbrele confuziei şi a erorii.

De ce are Codicele lui da Vinci un asemenea succes? Probabil pentru că Dan Brown a ştiut să adune în într-o singură carte elemente ce înfierbântă inimile celor mai diverse categorii de oameni: deconstrucţia creştinismului, exaltarea valorilor feministe şi punerea în scenă a unei poveşti de dragoste care este demnă de marile „capodopere telenuvelistice”. Deconstrucţia creştinismului nu este un fenomen nou în sine, dar este omniprezent astăzi şi foarte la modă. Propagarea valorilor feministe atrage de partea romanului cercurile feministe, care cunosc o dezvoltare rapidă, mai ales in Statele Unite. Povestea de dragoste nu este nimic special din punct de vedere artistic, ea urmând o schema aplicabilă oricărei telenovele sau oricărui alt roman „a la Sandra Brown”: doi oameni total necunoscuţi, cu preocupări diverse, sunt aduşi împreună de un eveniment ciudat, împreună trec peste dificultăţi aparent insurmontabile, pentru a se îndrăgosti în final. Toate aceste elemente care asigura succes romanului îşi găsesc suprema finalitate în dizertaţile istorico-teologice ale lui Robert Langdon sau ale lui Leigh Teabing, care reprezintă practic punctul culminant al romanului.

De la aceste dizertaţii derivă şi o primă mare problemă pe care acest roman o crează, şi anume confuzia dintre ficţiune şi realitate. În general, romanele istorice preiau o anumită perioadă istorică pe care o folosesc ca background pentru dezvoltarea firului epic. Punctul central nu este însă istoria în sine, ci personajele si evoluţia lor pe toate planurile. Aşadar, istoria este întotdeauna fundal şi nu plan principal. De aceea nici licenţa istorică ca figură de stil nu este ceva de evitat, ba chiar se poate avea un rol fundamental în edificarea personajelor. Codicele lui da Vinci face excepţie de la aceste aspecte ale romanului istoric. Dan Brown face din dizertaţile istorico-teologice un punct central al romanului său, încercând să-l convingă pe cititor că Iisus a fost însurat cu Maria Magdalena şi a avut urmaşi, că nimeni nu îl considera pe Hristos Dumnezeu şi că împăratul Constantin a fost cel care a impus ideea dumnezeirii lui Iisus Hristos, că acelaşi împărat a impus canonul evanghelic, incluzând doar evangheliile după Matei, Marcu, Luca şi Ioan şi excluzând alte 80 de scrieri evanghelice ş.a.m.d. Toate acestea sunt aserţiuni per care autorul le declară adevărate, dar care sunt lipsite de o structură argumentativă bine definită sau de dovezi concludente. În fond, pentru a „dovedi” acurateţea dizertaţilor sale, Dan Brown se foloseşte de anumite aspecte preluate din realitatea cotidiană, cum ar fi faptul că prelatura Opus Dei deţine o clădire imensă în York. Efectul este acela că cititorul este tentat să gândească: „dacă este adevărat că Opus Dei deţine o clădire mare in New York, trebuie să fie adevărat şi ceea ce autorul spune despre Iisus”, ceea ce este eronat. În această eroare cad cei care nu au o pregătire istorico-teologică serioasă şi cei care nici nu au acces imediat la operele istorice şi teolohice de referinţă, adică marea masă a cititorilor.

Dar mai există şi un alt motiv, care ne face să ne dăm seama de nevaliditatea afirmaţilor lui Dan Brown. Acesta ar fi faptul că romanul prezintă în mod total greşit sau neconform cu realitatea numeroase evenimente istorice, persoane sau instituţii. De exemplu, Dan Brown confundă „Vaticanul” cu Biserica Catolică, făcându-le practic sinonime, astfel încât deseori foloseşte sintagma „Vaticanul” pentru a denumi de fapt Biserica Catolică în întregime. Leigh Teabing afirmă că împăratul Constantin a creat la Vatican o noua putere (Dan Brown, The da Vinci Code, Doubleday, New York 2003, p. 233), o afirmaţie extrem de stranie având în vedere că pe acea vreme Vaticanul nici nu exista, iar terenul pe care se află astăzi Vaticanul era in afara Romei. Vaticanul a devenit reşedinţa oficială a papei doar începând cu secolul al XIV-lea. Altă eroare ar fi aceea că autorul confundă creştinismul cu catolicismul, trecând cu vedere peste bisericile ortodoxe si protestante, lucru ce este destul de important.

Pe de altă parte, un alt aspect extrem de negativ al romanului ar fi acela că propagă o atitudine relativistă, ceea ce conduce la indiferentism faţă de religie şi faţă de adevăr. Fenomenul indiferentismului este deja destul de puternic, iar Codicele lui da Vinci nu face altceva decât să încurajeze astfel de atitudini, creând o perspectivă extrem de periculoasă, atât pe plan spiritual, dar şi social: oamenii cred că pot fi religioşi, fără a subscrie cerinţelor credinţei şi se simt dezlegaţi de orice obligaţie, responsabilitate sau disciplină, acţionând după dorinţe şi pofte. Ori, această atitudine nu poate conduce la nimic bun, pe nici un plan al existenţei omeneşti.

Cu aceste aspecte oarecum preliminare, putem trece la o analiză mai amănunţită a principalelor teze browniene, deoarece o tratare exhaustivă a acestora este cvasi imposibilă în limita unui simplu articol. Pentru început se cuvine să enumerăm aceste teze: Iisus Hristos a fost însurat cu Maria Magdalena şi a avut urmaşi; la început nimeni nu a crezut cu adevărat in divinitatea lui Hristos, aceasta fiind o invenţie a împăratului Constantin; de asemenea împăratul Constantin a hotărât canonul neotestamentar, în care a inclus evangheliile după Matei, Marcu, Luca şi Ioan, excluzând alte aproximativ 80 de scrieri evanghelice. Toate aceste afirmaţii au ceva în comun, şi anume tradiţia gnostică, întrucât ele îşi au izvorul în aşa-numitele evanghelii gnostice, dintre care principalele sunt evanghelia lui Filip, evanghelia Mariei Magdalena şi evanghelia lui Toma.

Dar ce este gnosticismul şi în ce raport se află el cu creştinismul? Cuvântul „gnosticism” reprezintă o noţiune modernă care denumeşte o serie lungă de mişcări religioase care aveau în comun, în primul rând, accentuarea unei cunoaşteri specifice numită gnosis. Adepţii se numeau gnostici (gnostikoi) şi vedeau în gnoză singura posibilitate de mântuire. Gnosticii aveau de asemenea o puternică viziune dualistă conform căreia tot ceea ce este material este rău, iar ceea ce este spiritual (tot ceea ce este spiritual in afara răului) este bun. Gnosticismul a avut o perioadă înfloritoare între secolele II-IV, perioadă în care au activat mai multe şcoli gnostice. Reprezentanţii cei mai importanţi ai şcolilor gnostice au fost Simon Magul[1], Valentin, Marcion şi Mani. Mai trebuie adăugat că toate temele gnostice sunt anterioare şcolilor gnostice. După cum afirmă Mircea Eliade, unele teme sunt atestate în Iranul antic, în India din timpul Upanişadelor, în orfism şi platonism; altele caracterizează sincretismul elenistic, iudaismul biblic şi creştinismul. Din această cauză se poate afirma că gnosticismul se află într-un raport de posterioritate cu creştinismul şi că are un profund caracter eclectic. Având in vedere aceste aspecte putem trece acum la combaterea tezelor din Codicele lui da Vinci.

Dan Brown afirmă că Iisus Hristos a fost însurat cu Maria Magdalena, urmărind fidel evangheliile gnostice a lui Filip şi a Mariei Magdalena. Aceste „evanghelii” au fost elaborate cu mult după cele 4 evanghelii canonice, într-un spaţiu gnostic, adresându-se gnosticilor. Prin urmare, ele nu propun o biografie a lui Iisus, ci ele vin să armonizeze persoana istorică a lui Iisus cu învăţăturile gnostice. Prin urmare, ele au un profund caracter anti-istoric. Prin urmare, această căsătorie despre care vorbesc evangheliile gnostice trebuie privită dintr-un punct de vedere mitico-religios, întrucât religiile gnostice aveau încă profunde reminiscenţe mitice. O legătură matrimonială exista pentru alte cercuri gnostice între Simon Magul si Elena. Aceasta era soţia lui Simon, pe care el a găsit-o într-un bordel din Tyr. Elena era considerată ultima şi cea mai decăzută întruchipare ale „Gândirii” lui Dumnezeu (Ennoia). Răscumpărată de Simon, elena devine instrumentul răscumpărării universale[2]. Fără îndoială, presupusa relaţie matrimonială dintre Iisus şi Maria Magdalena trebuie interpretată într-o cheie asemănătoare.

O altă afirmaţie scandaloasă făcută de Dan Brown ar fi aceea că la început nimeni nu credea în dumnezeirea lui Iisus, divinitatea fiindu-i atribuită lui Hristos pentru prima dată de către împăratul Constantin. Nu putem intra acum foarte adânc în argumente teologice, întrucât s-ar putea scrie o singură carte numai pe tema aceasta, însă trebuie să arătăm că autorul greşeşte din nou. Apostolii au fost primii care au recunoscut divinitatea lui Iisus Hristos. Pentru a demonstra aceasta mă voi opri numai asupra argumentului psihologic, căci mi se pare cel mai relevant în situaţia de faţă. Există oameni care susţin că apostolii nu erau întru totul convinşi de dumnezeirea lui Hristos, iar ca dovadă ar putea sta faptul că după arestarea din grădina Ghetsemani toţi apostolii cu excepţia lui Ioan s-au dezis de Iisus, ba chiar Petru s-a şi lepădat de trei ori, întocmai după cum îi spusese Mântuitorul înainte. Învierea lui Iisus din morţi a fost însă evenimentul care i-a făcut pe apostoli să creadă că Iisus este cu adevărat Dumnezeu, i-a făcut să fie atât de convinşi de acest lucru încât toţi au îmbrăţişat calea martiriului. Apoi, după moartea apostolilor, divinitatea lui Iisus a fost susţinută de Părinţii Apologeţi, dintre care Iustin Martirul, Irineu, Clemente Alexandrinul ş.a. Prin urmare, divinitatea lui Iisus a fsot mărturisită de întreaga Biserică încă înainte de împăratul Constantin, pentru această credinţă creştinii ajungând în catacombe şi vărsându-şi sângele.

Mai rămâne problema canonului biblic sau, mai exact, problema celor patru evanghelii şi de ce nu au fost introduse şi alte scrieri în canonul Noului Testament. Dan Brown afirmă că împăratul Constantin a stabilit canonul Noului Testament, incluzând cele patru evanghelii cunoscute şi excluzând alte aproape 80 de scrieri. Problema stă în datarea corectă a scrierilor, atât a celor canonice cât şi a celor gnostice. Noul Testament a fost scris în întregime între anii 51-101, înaintea oricărei evanghelii gnostice. Cele patru evanghelii, Matei, Marcu, Luca şi Ioan, au fost recunoscute imediat de comunităţile creştine, astfel încât s-a format un aşa-numit consens comun asupra canonului Noului Testament încă din prima parte a secolului II. Iustin Martirul scriind în jurul anului 150 şi explicând liturghia creştină cititorilor săi necreştini afirmă că apostolii, scriindu-şi amintirile, pe care noi le numim evanghelii, ne-au transmis şi nouă bucuria resimţită de ei (Iustin Martirul, Prima Apologie). Tertulian scrie cam în aceeaşi perioadă şi apără cele patru evanghelii şi celelalte cărţi ale Noului Testament împotriva lui Marcion. Acest Marcion era gnostic şi a întemeiat un canon propriu în care a inclus doar evanghelia după Luca, pe care a încercat să îl impună la Roma, dar fără să reuşească acest lucru. Atunci el a întemeiat propria sa scoală gnostică.

Puţin mai târziu Irineu afirmă că Matei a scris o evanghelie pentru evrei, în limba lor, în timp ce Petru şi Pavel predicau la Roma şi puneau bazele Bisericii. După plecarea lor, Marcu, discipolul lui Petru, de asemenea a scris ceea ce Petru predicase. La fel şi Luca, însoţitorul lui Pavel, a scris într-o carte evanghelia predicată de acesta[3]. În fine, Ioan, discipolul Mântuitorului, a publicat şi el o evanghelie în timpul şederii sale la Efes în Asia. (Irineu, Adversus Hereses). Toate acestea arată că evangheliile cuprinse în canon au fost stabilite de întreaga Biserică cu cel puţin 150 de ani înaintea împăratului Constantin. Prin urmare, se poate afirma că scrierile gnostice sunt rezultatul unei lupte a sectelor eretice împotriva învăţăturilor Bisericii, care erau deja stabilite.

Acestea sunt principalele erori care pot fi reperate în romanul Codicele lui da Vinci sau, cel puţin, erorile pe care le consider cele mai periculoase având în vedere că atacă creştinismul la rădăcina sa. Binenţeles că mai sunt şi alte erori cum ar fi prezentarea eronată a împăratului Constantin şi a ceea ce el a făcut în general, falsa prezentare a ordinului Templierilor, a prelaturii personale Opus Dei şi a Prioratului de Sion. Dar, cu siguranţă, afirmaţia care este cea mai populară printre cititorii romanului este aceea conform căreia Leonardo da Vinci ar fi pictat-o pe Maria Magdalena în tabloul „Cine cea de taină” în locul lui Ioan. Eu însă nu consider această afirmaţie ca fiind una vitală, atâta timp cât pentru viaţa si credinţa unui creştin nu ar trebui să joace un rol foarte important. Oricum există critici de artă care afirmă că Dan Brown greşeşte şi în această privinţă. Rămâne ca noi să analizăm cu atenţie ceea ce citim şi să nu ne lăsăm angrenaţi în această deconstrucţie universală care ne încolţeşte de pretutindeni, deoarece astăzi, mai mult ca oricând, trebuie să construim.

In most thrillers, "hardware" consists of big guns, airplanes, military vehicles, and weapons that make things explode. Dan Brown has written a thriller for those of us who like our hardware with disc drives and who rate our heroes by big brainpower rather than big firepower. It's an Internet user's spy novel where the good guys and bad guys struggle over secrets somewhat more intellectual than just where the secret formula is hidden--they have to gain understanding of what the secret formula actually is.
In this case, the secret formula is a new means of encryption, capable of changing the balance of international power. Part of the fun is that the book takes the reader along into an understanding of encryption technologies. You'll find yourself better understanding the political battles over such real-life technologies as the Clipper Chip and PGP (Pretty Good Privacy) software even though the book looks at the issues through the eyes of fiction.

Although there's enough globehopping in this book for James Bond, the real battleground is cyberspace, because that's where the "bomb" (or rather, the new encryption algorithm) will explode. Yes, there are a few flaws in the plot if you look too closely, but the cleverness and the sheer fun of it all more than make up for them. There are enough twists and turns to keep you guessing and a lot of high, gee-whiz-level information about encryption, code breaking, and the role they play in international politics. Set aside the whole afternoon and evening for it and have finger food on hand for supper--you may want to read this one straight through. --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

Every introduction goes like this: "Hey, how's it going? What's your name? Where are you from? What school did you go to? Oh! Really! That's cool. I had a friend who went there...yeah, did you know Jane Doe? No? Oh well, your school's so big I don't know why I thought you'd know her. Oh me? Well, I'm John Doe, and I'm from State 51, and I went to University of State 51. Yeah, it is really far away, but I really pref-ed this city because I wanted a real change of scenery and a big challenge. Yeah. It's cool. Yeah. ... ... ... OK! See you later!"

And really, you found out nothing. You could learn more looking up people's facebook profiles, but it's not like we have time for that. Because let's be honest. I don't care about where you're from or what school you went to. I care about if you're cool, if I could possibly live with you, if you think you'd want to live with me, and how soon can we start looking for a place because I want to find a nice one and that'll take some looking around.

That's what's important. And I haven't been asking about what books or movies or music people like (because it's not like people even give honest answers about that anyways, deferring to Latest Indie Artist Person X Heard About [Shearwater], or Fashionably Intelligent Foreign Film from Oscars [The Diving Bell and the Butterfly], or Atypical Novel from a Surging Popular Author [All the Pretty Horses, Cormac McCarthy, because everyone's been reading The Road or No Country for Old Men], and they're just being impressively independently fashionable in a self-conscious way, and if they really said [boyanswer/girlanswer] Miley Cyrus/Coldplay, The Little Mermaid/The Departed, and Anything Dan Brown/Twilight they'd be embarrassed about how people would judge their really favorite things so they don't let them out to this world of strangers) because that search is usually fruitless, honestly.

But seriously, if one more person compares this to how awkward their freshman orientation was, I will get so annoyed I'm probably going to choke an Asian baby. That's how mad I'll be. I'm tired of that analogy more so than the darn same introductory question I've been using for the past two days. Geez, it has only been two days and people are already stating self-conscious ironies as a way to make awkward moments less awkward.

Continuando con las lecturas sobre estas sociedades secretas y organizaciones ocultas que estarían detras de la denominada "Teoría de la conspiración" y que supuestamente buscarían lo que se conoce como: "New Wolrd Order", encontré un documental muy interesante y que para quienes por ocio, gusto, lo que sea disfrutamos de la lectura y la historia encontrarán en el muchas verdades y teorías que podrían complementar muy bien los datos que cada uno maneje sobre las situaciones expuestas.

El nombre del documental es "Zeitgeist", del cual solo a modo de resumen les diré, se pasea desde los orígenes de la y las religiones que se conocen hoy en día y de como se utilizan para controlarnos, hasta el poder interior que posee cada ser humano, y como este está siendo destruido día a día, mediante los "Mass Media" o también conocidos como: Televisión, Periódicos, Radio, etc.

La idea de esto, es al igual que con la publicación anterior, indicar y resaltar, que exista o no esto de la teoría de la conspiración, el trasfondo en cuanto al mea culpa que debemos hacernos como integrantes de esta sociedad, pues es claro, y se refiere al hecho de como cada día "inventamos" y "creamos" (no es redundancia, busquen el significado de cada palabra y entenderán) más y más pretextos para separarnos unos de otros, ya sea la religión, los partidos políticos, sexualidad, género, color, raza, etc, etc.

Porque si nos ponemos a pensar un poco, si realmente existiesen estas sociedades, ya tienen el 90% hecho, y nosotros somos quienes facilitamos el trabajo, pues al parecer cada día la gente parece conformarse con menos, siempre que oigo decir a alguien que se siente orgulloso de ganarse la vida "Con el sudor de su frente" me horrorizo al ver la realidad tan delimitada en la que esa persona vive, entiendo que todo amerita un esfuerzo, pero la idea es que la recompensa sea en una proporción igual al esfuerzo invertido en conseguirla.

Por otra parte, si nos ponemos en el plano de que todo esto de las sociedades y conspiraciones, son solo parte de la histeria colectiva y que solo busca justificar la aparente incapacidad humana de enfrentarse a su realidad y salir adelante, pues creo que es más enfermizo aún, pues eso mostraría que todas esas formas de discriminación y segregación social, SON CREADAS POR NOSOTROS Y EN NUESTRO PROPIO DESMEDRO...

Definitivamente me resulta más coherente pensar que muchas mentes sedientas de poder puedan estar terminando su ciclo de conspiraciones y que nos hayan llevado a la situación actual, solo para sus propios beneficios, a entender que como seres humanos "racionales" hayamos creado esto SOLO PORQUE SI.

La solución está en nuestras manos, y queda claramente expuesto en el documental lo que se debe hacer, son pequeños cambios, es dejar de preocuparse de estupideces. (de las cuales en América Latina nos preocupamos bastante)

No me creen?, vean que todos los programas "basura" (de farandula, novelas, etc) son de mayor desarrollo y APOYO por la masa en América latina, más que en ningún otra parte... y para que decir acá en Chile.

Ocupemos nuestras mentes para pensar, para culturizarnos, para enterarnos de que está pasando realmente en este mundo, pues sea que existan o no estas entidades sedientas de poder, la sociedad está en decadencia y esto recién está comenzando...

Y para serles francos, entre continuar en una sociedad como la que se avecina, y una controlada por maniáticos del poder... digamos que no hay mucha diferencia, pero aún así la segunda opción aunque igual de enferma que la primera, me parece levemente y a riesgo de ser insultado y muchas cosas más, mucho mejor, pues al menos sus ganas de control, algo mejor podrán entregar en comparación del caos social al que nos dirigimos.

"I Like Books . . . Books Are Good" ~ Yours Truly

The above has become my personal mantra and I have probably used it several times on posts throughout this blog.  It is only partially true though.  I do like books (no question there) but really I feel that a more appropriate mantra for me would be "I like reading . . . reading is good."  While I am without a doubt a huge fan of books, both fiction and non-fiction, I am all around just a lover of written words.  Magazines, newspapers, blog posts, hell even random signs and poster, all of these and the words that appear on them fill me with delight.  Yesterday I received the July issue of Esquire and spent about two hours just lying on my bed reading almost every article.  I don't know which article it was exactly, because there was a number of very good ones in the magazine, but somewhere between the front and back cover I paused in my reading for a second and just pondered on how much I love great writing.  It seems almost silly to think this way.  Of course one should love great writing for how else would it be great unless it were loved?  I will refute this though.  Just because writing is loved does that make it great.  Of course this is a very subjective matter really and it is easy to argue both sides, but I have my stance and intend on holding my ground.

Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code was a hugely successful novel and I think I am safe in saying that it was loved (or at least greatly enjoyed) by a lot of people.  The Da Vinci Code is not a piece of great writing. Period.  I don't care if you liked it.  I don't care if you thought that it was the greatest book you have ever read.  The Da Vinci Code is poorly written.  Now of course this is subjective and I'm sure there are plenty of people who would like to argue with me about this.  That is fine, everyone is entitled to their own opinions (as long as they are okay with the fact that their opinions are wrong because The Da Vinci Code really is pretty much the biggest piece of crap ever written).  The thing is that their are a lot of books, or pieces of writing, that people enjoy, but that does not make them great pieces of writing in my opinion.  Perhaps they are great economically.  Perhaps they are good for the moment in which they exist.  but to me great writing is those words that work together so well they are bound to last.  Shakespeare is great writing.  Don Quixote is great writing.  The Declaration of Independence is great writing.  The Da Vinci Code and Goosebumps novels and tabloid newspapers however are not great writing (they may be successful, which to some may be synonymous with greatness, but ultimately I will stand by my saying that they do not represent great writing).

I spent my four years in college studying English (more specifically writing) and I have come to think that in studying the language and about writing and what has been written I have come to have at least a somewhat reasonable understanding of what constitutes great writing.  I think I knew that great writing existed before going to college but I do not think that I really appreciated the greatness until I began my college studies.  If I had to choose the first book that I think I knew to be greatly written I think it would have to be J.R.R. Tolkien's The Hobbit.  Prior to The Hobbit I had enjoyed reading quite a bit but I had not really been captivated by the power of it.  Then in fifth grade my father recommended Tolkien's book to me and my world was changed.  Never before had I encountered not just such a captivating story, but actual words put together with such precision and beauty.  The Hobbit is great writing.  I don't know how many times I have reread the story since fifth grade (the answer is a lot) but still every time I pick it up I am amazed with it.  This is my opinion on great writing.  Not only does it convey the meaning of the writing to the reader (which is essentially what all writing should do) but it surpasses that, the writing itself is something more than just the message it presents. 

I remember being in college and one day just thinking how I could really tell when something was greatly written.  I could not put my finger right on a definite aspect of the writing, especially because so many writers write so differently, but I knew.  From then on I could pick up a book or article or something else to read and be able to tell if it was well written or not.  While I had many books I liked in high school I could not do this yet.  I think it had something to do with being an English major.  When you get down to it, regardless of whether you are focusing on literature or teaching or writing, as an English major one is truly studying great writing.  The student focusing on literature is learning about which authors are great and trying determine what is great about them (or in some cases what is absolute crap, such as The Kite Runner, which was loathed by almost everybody in the class in which I read it -- justly so because the book sucks). The student focusing on teaching is learning how to teach others about great writing.  And the student focusing on writing is obviously learning, or trying to learn, how to write greatly themselves.  So I believe a big part of my understanding of great writing comes from my background education.  I think that if everybody was reasonably educated in literature and reading and writing, then books and writing like that in say The Da Vinci Code and The Kite Runner would not have as much of a chance to succeed.  But alas not everybody is as educated in such things and that is not always a bad thing (sometimes I feel it is an unfortunate thing, but oh well).

I was an English major with the focus on writing specifically and by my above logic that means I should have spent my four years in college learning about how to write greatly.  I stand by that.  That is a lot of what my education was focused on.  Of course you cannot just tell someone or show someone how to write greatly, just as you cannot just tell/show someone how to paint a masterpiece.  It does not work that way.  In focusing on writing I think the student learns to become more aware of what works and what does not work in his/her writing.  A big part in my learning about writing was in my learning how to take criticism and make it useful in my own efforts.  So here is the question: do I think of myself as a great writer now?

I am humble and so I cannot call my writing great writing.  There are just too many things which I have read which are of such superior quality than my own personal writing that it is hardly worth comparing.  But with that being said I don't consider myself an altogether bad writer either.  I like to think that I understand at least a little something about making words work and writing them well.  Will I ever be the next Hemingway of Dostoevsky?  Probably not (though I have not ruled it out yet either).  I consider myself capable of writing with proficiency which is better than many people (Dan Brown included).

I read a lot these days (in truth I read a lot and have read a lot most of the days of my life) and often what I read is okay but maybe nothing great.  If it is a horrible piece of writing I am usually quick to realize it and discontinue my reading.  And then there are the great pieces of writing that I find.  Some months back I picked up Thomas Berger's Little Big Man, this was a great piece of writing.  Some days at work as I skim through my RSS feeds or the online editions of newspapers I encounter greatly written articles and will take my time to read them through twice or thrice just for the pleasure of the words.  Some days I will go onto Wikisource and just browse through some Shakespeare or Poe and marvel at the mastery of the writing that has allowed their works to last so long.  For me reading is a great pleasure, but reading that great writing makes the pleasure so much more. 

Uma vez um amigo me disse que lendo um Dan Brown, se lê todos! E, de certa forma, até que ele estava certo. Independente da temática, as histórias contadas pelo senhro Brown são sempre iguais: um vilão X querendo modificar algo de alguma maneira catastrófica que mudaria a história do mundo; um mocinho que nada tem a ver com aquilo, mas que, por ser especialista em determinado assunto, é convocado às pressas para ser o grande herói; e claro, uma mocinha que nunca tem nada de indefesa, é sempre muito inteligente e acaba por se envolver com o mocinho de uma maneira mais emocional (nesses últimos dois papeis, os gêneros podem se inverter). Resumindo, é isso aí.

Vejam o exemplo de "Anjos e Demônios", seu segundo livro, no qual o professor norte-americano Robert Langdon, especializado em simbologia e história da arte, é convocado às pressas para salvar o Vaticano da destruição total; ali conhece Vittoria Vetra, uma cientista de pulso forte e determinada a ajudar, mesmo sabendo que o Vaticano é contra tudo o que ela estava pesquisando; e o fim surpreendente (e mirabolante) onde o vilão se mostra ser o mais improvável dentre os personagens.

Ou mesmo o exemplo do seu mais famoso romance, "O Código Da Vinci", no qual o mesmo Robert Langdon cai de pára-quedas no meio de uma conspiração que pode ruir com os dois mil anos de histórida da Igreja Católica, uma espécie de "Indiana Jonnes e a Última Cruzada" que, porém, se envereda por caminhos menos sacros. Dessa vez, apesar de ainda sonhar com Vetra, Langdon se envolve com Sophie Neveu, uma criptologista da Polícia Francesa. Apesar de bem menos empolgante que o primeiro, "O Código" é bem mais polêmico e seu vilão é, pra surpresa de todos (uau!), o mais improvável dos personagens (tenho a impressão de já ter dito isso).

O último que li foi "Fortaleza Digital", o primeiro romance de Dan Brown, publicado em 1998. Segue por assuntos bem diferentes dos dois citados acima, algo mais tecnológico e menos histórico/artístico. E também os gêneros se invertem entre os personagens principais. Dessa vez a protagonista é uma mulher, Susan Fletcher, uma criptologista da NSA, a Agência de Segurança Nacional dos EUA. E seu noivo, David Beker, é somente um coadjuvante presente apenas para "encher linguiça" no decorrer do livro, pois sua presença ali se mostra totalmente inútil ao fim da história.

Até agora é o pior Dan Brown que li. Nesta conspiração, o autor cria um super-computador, o brinquedinho secreto da NSA chamado TRANSLTR, com 3 milhões de processadores capazes de desencripitar qualquer e-mail suspeito em apenas 6 minutos. Uma espécie de Big Brother da Internet. Apesar de secreto, várias pessoas e organizações desconfiam de sua existem e, pelo bem da privacidade na rede, lutam para que a NSA assuma sua existência e desative-o. O romance tenta mostrar, através dos diálogos, os benefícios que uma máquina dessas pode gerar em prol da paz mundial, porém não consegue feder nem cheirar, e o TRANSLTR não consegue convencer o leitor, seja para o bem o para o mal.

Entre os que são contra sua existência está Ensei Tankado, um japonês que ajudou na construção do super-computador e agora tenta obrigar a NSA a expô-lo ao mundo. Para isso, Tankado cria um padrão de encriptação que não pode ser quebrado, nem mesmo pelo TRANSLTR, e ameaça solta-lo na rede. Do outro lado, no departamente de Criptografia da NSA, estão o Comandante Strathmore e sua protegida, Susan, fazendo o máximo para impedir esse novo padrão criado por Tankado. No entanto Tankado morre misteriosamente e a chave secreta para desativar sua criação é perdida. Devido a isso, David Becker é enviado para Espanha e 50% do livro contam suas aventuras por lá: uma caça ao tesouro frustrada. Frustrada mesmo!!!

A conspiração gira toda em volta deste super-computador. Até mesmo os personagens ficam meio apagados e os sentimentos de cada um deles que movem boa parte das ações do livro acabam por ganhar pouco espaço, tirando, assim, suas capacidades de comover o leitor. Sem contar que a trama toda não é difícil de ser descoberta ainda no meio da história. O restante é pura correria. E os momentos finais, que caberiam facilmente em um única folha, se alogam por umas vinte!

Mas "Fortaleza Digital" tem um ponto positivo: os vilões (se é que podem ser chamados assim - afinal, quem leu O Código, sabe o que quer dizer "vilão") não são totalmente vilões. São mais uns desastrados. A maior parte do mal presente no romance acontece devido às escolhas errados destes personagens. O próprio Tankado é um pacifista e queria apenas proteger a privacidade dos usuários da Internet. E essa é uma característica interessante, fugindo do rígido padrão "Bem contra o Mal", o que torna os antagonistas (assim são melhor definidos) mais cativantes e desperta o raciocínio do leitor para que ele próprio escolha o certo e o errado do livro.

No fim das contas, "Fortaleza" é uma leitura simples e até mesmo agradável. Não tem tantas curiosidades quanto às aventura de Langdon, mas é bem mais dinâmico na maior parte do tempo. Quase um roteiro de cinema, de tão corrido. O mais interessante foi descobrir a origem da palavra "bug" (usada como erro/defeito de computador).

Mas uma coisa não se pode negar, Dan Brown, por mais pobres que sejam suas histórias, consegue prender o leitor do início ao fim. Seus livros misturam ficção com realidade, e nunca se sabe onde começa uma e termina a outra. E, apesar de não ser uma leitura de profundidade e seus livros não passarem nenhuma mensagem ou não conterem nenhuma alegoria capaz de expôr os defeitos e qualidades da raça humana, ou seja, apesar de não ter nada que um bom livro deveria ter, eles são cheios de curiosidades históricas, artísticas e tecnológicas que despertam o interesse para um mundo novo, muitas vezes desconhecido totalmente pelo leitor. Curiosidades que envolvem grandes personalidades da história, como Da Vinci, Rafael, Newton... e grandes movimentos e passagens históricas, como as Cruzadas, os Iluminati etc. Tal como curiosidades tecnológicas presentes em "Fortaleza Digital".

Dan Brown não vai entrar pra história como um grande escritor, mas vai conseguir cativar um grande público por um bom tempo ainda. E despertar nestes, eu esperto, o interesse pela arte, ciência e tecnologia. Se assim o for, ele não será de todo mau!

BBC Brasil/Terra - A Diocese de Roma proibiu que um novo filme com a adaptação para o cinema de mais um romance de Dan Brown, autor de O Código Da Vinci, seja rodado em duas das mais conhecidas igrejas da cidade. Os produtores tiveram negada permissão para filmar Anjos e Demônios no interior das igrejas de Santa Maria del Popolo e Santa Maria della Vittoria, que contém obras de Caravaggio. As igrejas são locais de cenas-chaves do romance. É onde dois cardeais são encontrados mortos.
