Yup, I found him. Or at least I am pretty sure it’s him. LOL I have been a member of Footnote

Yup, I found him. Or at least I am pretty sure it's him. LOL I have been a member of Footnote pretty much from the beginning. I love the fact that for about $30 a year I can view original military documents. Well today I found my guy hiding in the Civil War Compiled Service Records of Tennessee. Twenty one year old Burnett Victory was listed as being a Pvt in the 24th Tennessee. Thing is on his muster rolls he's B. Vickrey, Burnet Vicory, B. Vickery. No wonder I can't find the dude. Even his officers didn't know how to spell his name.
The records state that he enlisted on 24 Aug 1861. He supposedly reenlisted on 20 Jun 1862, but he is pretty much AWOL after that point and he married his wife Mary in September 1862, so my guess is that he either didn't realize he reenlisted, or he frankly didn't care.
I am still compiling all the data found on his muster rolls and then I will need to check on the comings and goings of the 24th TN, but it is just so cool. I found him! And a few more spellings in which to search for him in 1850. I had him born between 1835 and 1837, but his military records state he was 21 in 1861, making his birth date closer to 1840. Now I just have to find the ten year old in 1850 and I would be able to take this line back one more generation. And I also have to see if he applied for a pension. That would be very handy!

As you can see, I have made some genealogy progress today. I still don't know when he was born, who his parents were, or for sure how he spelled his last name, but I know he served during the Civil War, so maybe I can find someone who did know him.

The above link in orange will take you directly to Waihona.com to do a search on

Royal Patent Search

The above link in orange will take you directly to Waihona.com to do a search on your ancestor's Royal Patent. Not all of the information is contained in that search. You can garner further info from the Mahele Indices book which you can download at kohawaiipaeaina.net

The link to the Mahale Indices book is located on the left side of the website. The book will show you the corresponding Court Certificate of Title or CT (de facto term is LCAw, we are not wards of an institution), or in most cases it will. It will show you the book and page number of both documents as well as the location and area of land.

When you have that information handy you may then order the documents from the Bureau of Conveyances (occupied). I believe it's $1.00 per copy but I'm not sure. It's best to contact them and give them the document information you are requesting along with an inquiry as to cost per document set.

I don't know the email but have copied and pasted their contact information:

This section will either be a link to map and/or a picture of an island or ahupua'a. This is especially good for those researching genealogy in order to determine their ancestor's Royal Patent, Court Certificate of Title, or Royal Patent Grant. Many of the maps were made by de facto so please don't take some of the information from the maps at face value. The best map I would guess would be the one that comes with your palapala.

Charles Spurgeon's devotional for today insists that all of us can obtain sainthood.

“Do not, then, look upon the ancient saints as being exempt either from infirmities or sins; and do not regard them with that mystic reverence which will almost make us idolaters. Their holiness is attainable even by us. We are “called to be saints” by that same voice which constrained them to their high vocation. It is a Christian’s duty to force his way into the inner circle of saintship; and if these saints were superior to us in their attainments, as they certainly were, let us follow them; let us emulate their ardour and holiness. “

Once when I was starting to read Matthew in the Bible I was tempted to skip over the boring genealogy. But my eye caught Kind David's name, and then, it also mentioned Bathsheba as part of Jesus' ancestry.

Mat 1:7 (GNB) ...Solomon (his Mother had been the woman who had been Uriah's wife...)

I remember feeling as if a bolt of lightening had hit me. King David and Bathsheba committed adultery while she was married to King David's best friend, Uriah. Then, to ensure his best friend didn't interfere with their newly illicit relationship, King David sent Uriah to the front lines of battle to meet his death.

I remember thinking, “There certainly is hope for me, if a murderer and adulteress contributed to Christ's DNA.” I also thought of St. Paul slaughtering Christians, and his becoming one of Christianity's greatest saints. Certainly, nothing you or I have done cannot be forgiven. Our Father in Heaven promised to finish the work He started in us; all He needs is our willing participation.

Thank You God that You love us so much. Through your word we learn that the worst of sinners can become the greatest workers in Your Kingdom. Thank You for the hope of glory in You. Amen.
