It is an incredibly big gummy snake...

We have had this for over a week, but we cannot find the right time to give it to the kids.  If they eat the whole thing...they will be bouncing off of the walls!  We know that it has to be well before nap time or night time.

Giving my kids a snake sounds like the complete opposite of a passage of Scripture in the seventh chapter of Matthew...

7"Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

 8"For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

 9"Or what man is there among you who, when his son asks for a loaf, will give him a stone?

 10"Or if he asks for a fish, he will not give him a snake, will he?

 11"If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give what is good to those who ask Him!

 12"In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the Law and the Prophets.

This passage has always confused me.  I have asked for many things from God that I have not received.  So...is this passage wrong?

I don't think so.  The main point is that we can trust God to give us what we need.  We have a responsibility to ask, seek, and knock.  The words are actually 'keep on asking, keep on seeking, and keep on knocking'. 

The reason that he brings up the snake and the stone is to point to the fact that the Father knows how to meet the physical and spiritual needs.  A good father would not have given his son a stone thinking that it would physically satisfy.  A good Jewish father would not have given his son cooked snake to make him think that it was some other type of meat.  It is for spiritual reasons that He would not do this (Leviticus 11).   

God will give us what He knows will meet our real needs.  Sometimes we ask for things that aren't really going to be good for us...so God may not give us what He knows will ultimately be bad for us.  Since we are talking ultimates, He will give us what is ultimately good for Him.  It is all about His glory. 

Sometimes, we do not receive what we ask for because of our motives.  James 4:3 reads, "You ask and do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, so that you may spend it on your pleasures."   Our desire has got to be aligned with God's desire.  That is why we can read in 1 John 5:14, "This is the confidence which we have before Him, that, if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us." 

I am discovering that parental wisdom really plays a big role in making sure that there is a balance between what my kids want and what they need.  My Father in Heaven has wisdom beyond what I can imagine.  I can trust Him with my pursuits.  I can also trust His response.  I hope that I can remember that the next time that I want to give God a hissy fit.

I also found some other cool gummy things starting with chocolate covered gummy bears. *drool* At $7.98/lb they're also pretty pricey but I bet they are good. It's also really cool because they don't just look like blobs, you can really distinguish the bearness :D .

Now an amazing video about making a gummy bear spontaneously combust!

Atleast these aren't a fleshy color. What will Disney do wrong next? lol.
