I'm halfway through Episode 4 of Heroes aka this week's episode. So far, this has been the best episode for Season 3 yet (...except for the disappearance of ELLEEEE). Anyways, I beg to ask one further question.

Where we left off: treading water (show not going anywhere) and no one ever dying. Two problems. My third? Pretty soon, every Hero will be able to do everything. Sylar stole powers. Peter absorbs them. Mohinder injects them. In the end: THEY ALL CAN DO EVERYTHING. Clearly this can't and shouldn't happen, but it looks like its heading in this direction.

Enough with the Heroes circle jerk, guys. Something needs to happen that has serious, believeable, and realistic consequences or else...it all seems moot.

Ok, I've been hatin'. But I will say/reiterate that this season is DEFINITELY world's better than Season 2. I'm still in it to win it.

After making a name for himself playing the clingy, obsessive, overly-emotional boyfriend to a T (see Nick Andopolis on Freaks and Geeks and Eric on Undeclared), Jason Segel decided to take the logical next step and translate his signature character to the big screen in last spring's Forgetting Sarah Marshall. Released this past week on DVD, the romantic comedy from the team behind Knocked Up and the 40-Year-Old Virgin stars Segel as Kristen Bell's doting, TV theme song-writing boyfriend, whom she dumps once her acting career takes off. Where Nick would have reacted by reciting Styx lyrics to her in a candle-covered basement and Eric by crafting a multimedia presentation of their most intimate moments, the Forgetting Sarah Marshall Segel responds by trying to convince Bell of his commitment to her while sitting bareass on a leather couch. Regardless of the response, all three characters suffer from the same compulsive, pitiful, foredoomed devotion that drives away the women they love and leaves them heartbroken and alone. While both Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared ended before we could see what ultimately became of Nick and Eric, Forgetting Sarah Marshall follows Segel as he tries to piece his life back together by taking a Hawaiian vacation -- only to discover that Bell is in the room next door with Russell Brand, the most lecherous man on the face of the earth.

Highlights of the Forgetting Sarah Marshall trailer include: 1) The aforementioned breakup scene where Segel lets his towel drop when he realizes he's getting dumped. 2) Segel drinking chianti from an orange juice glass while watching Bell and Brand on Access Hollywood. 3) Segel crying after sleeping with another woman. 4) Jonah Hill making a pass at Brand after giving him his demo CD. 5) Segel falling off a cliff while trying to impress Mila Kunis. And, 6) Segel tricking Bill Hader's wife into mimicking a sex act while speaking to the two of them on a webcam. My favorite line in the trailer comes when Bell asks Segel what he's doing at the resort and he jokingly replies, "Came here to murder you." Two of my favorite actresses, Kristen Bell from "Heroes" and Rashida Jones from "The Office" held a Voting Kick off Party on Friday at Missouri State University.

Kristen claims to have never been into politics until she heard Obama speak during his primary campaign.

“It sort of really inspired me to get off my butt and do something. I’m not saying I know everything about every policy in the world … but I’m a good judge of character.”

“It’s not about feeding you a bunch of crap,” she said of Obama’s campaign.

Rashida Jones encouraged the students to find unregistered friends to sign up to vote in Missouri before the October 8th deadline.

“There’s no way around it, you guys are going to be the reason Obama wins Missouri,” Jones said. “It’s your responsibility, it’s your country and it’s time to take it back.”

Peter Bretter (Segel) is in the slumps after his television star girlfriend, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), breaks up with him in the most awkward and nudist of ways (let's just say, after this scene, you will know exactly what religion Segel is). With the help of his quirky step-brother, he decides to take a lonesome trip to Hawaii to take his mind off of Sarah (hence the title). However, as luck would have it, Sarah and her newest squeeze, British rock star and self-proclaimed playboy, Aldous Snow (played by Russell Brand, who in my opinion, steals every scene that he is in), are staying at the same hotel. Instead of running away, Peter decides to stick it out and make the most of his makeshift trip. With the help of front-desk receptionist, Rachael (Mila Kunis), Peter befriends an array of characters that bring even more comic relief to the film -- including some excellent cameos-- which eventually becomes just the help that he needs to destroy his memory of Sarah Marshall.

Forgetting Sarah Marshall is laugh-out-loud funny, but that is to be expected, since it is written by Freaks and Geeks alum, Jason Segel (think Seth Rogan only taller and more charming). The premise may sound silly, and at the same time slightly stupid (you might be asking yourself, "Why would he want to go on vacation alone?"/"Why doesn't he just find another hotel?"), but what is a frat pack movie without silly and stupid?

The only suggestion I have for those who enjoy nitpicking at movies with little to no substance is to just not analyze anything about it! Yes, there are scenes that completely contradict each other, and characters that are not fully developed, but the point of Forgetting Sarah Marshall isn't to bring the audience an Oscar-worthy cinematic masterpiece (no offense, Jason), but to bring genuine laughter to the home front instead.

This is a great date movie when you're feeling too cheap and lazy to go out and want easy access to your room in case the sex scenes excite your partner, and an even better remedy for those whose summer happiness is a few degrees away from becoming completely nonexistent for the rest of the year. So I suggest you start switching the order in which your movies on netflix are in, because you will definitely want to make room for Forgetting Sarah Marshall (the complete third season of the Partridge Family can wait, trust me).

Eso es lo que le ocurre a Peter Bretter (Jason Segel) cuando su conocida novia, Sarah Marshall (Kristen Bell), lo manda a freír espárragos a la China, siendo Forgetting Sarah Marshall, del director Nicholas Stoller y el productor Judd Apatow, la historia de la caída y el intento de ponerse de pie de un martir del género masculino, quien iniciará un viaje más mental que físico en busca de la estabilidad perdida.

La película producida por el nuevo rey de la comedia estadounidense Judd Apatow, dirigida por Nicholas Stoller y escrita y protagonizada por Jason Segel es una entretenida visión de uno de los momentos más terribles de los hombres, cuando somos pateados y quedamos despechados tratando de entender que fue lo que pasó. Aunque los niveles de humor son menores que en Knocked Up (cuya crítica puedes leer AQUÍ) o Superbad (cuya crítica puedes leer ACÁ) es una película de todas formas entretenida, que se sustenta más que en el guión, que pudo ser mejor, en muy buenas y convincentes actuaciones. Kristen Bell está chistosa cuando debe serlo, está hot cuando debe serlo y está muy triste en los momentos de drama, mientras que Jason Segel interpreta muy bien a un tipo despachado, medio estúpido, pero que poco a poco va intentando repuntar. Quien a ratos se roba la película es el casi desconocido, fuera de Inglaterra, Russell Brand como el músico británico Aldous Snow. Mila Kunis está correcta en su rol y asume a la perfección ser a ratos el cable al aire (claramente no es el cable a tierra) del protagonista. Los personajes secundarios también aportan mucho a la cinta, como es el caso del gracioso Jonah Hill, Paul Rudd, Jack McBrayer, Bill Hader, Davon McDonald y Taylor Wily. Forgetting Sarah Marshall no es la mejor película cómica del último tiempo, sin embargo, es un entretenido ejercicio de humor en el que más de alguno se verá reflejado.

C'est la même chose pour "Forgetting Sarah Marshall". Combien de gens sont allés voir "Sans Sarah, rien ne va" ? Si je n'avais pas su que c'était avec Kristen Bell (Veronica Mars) et Jason Segel (How I met your mother) et que Jason avait écrit le scénario, je n'aurais jamais vu ce film, et j'aurais raté le bonheur qu'est Russell Brand.

Avec ses bottes à talon, sa coupe de cheveux délirante et son talent pour toujours dire très exactement ce qu'il pense, Russell Brand est d'une autre planète. Dans la vraie vie, il vient juste d'Angleterre, mais le jeune homme fait tache dans le paysage people très plan-plan... Ce qui semble lui aller : après son rôle dans le très drôle "Sans Sarah rien ne va" de Judd Appatow, Russell était le présentateur des MTV VMAs 2008.

Russell aime dire ce qu'il pense. Le mois dernier, il disait dans une interview, "J'ai un problème quand quelqu'un m’interdit de faire quelque chose. Juste avant de rencontrer la Reine, les responsables du protocole m'ont expliqué comment la saluer, ne pas parler jusqu'à ce qu'elle me parle... Mais tout ce à quoi je pouvais penser c'était "Chope lui le sein!" ". Ça ne le ferait pas chez la reine, et ça ne le fait pas non plus chez MTV, l'ex chaîne rebelle devenue gentiment bisounours.

Sauf que si. Parce que Russell dit ce qu'il pense en mode blague, et qu'il a l'air tellement à l'ouest que les américains ne se vexent pas, et donnent à MTV ses meilleurs chiffres d'audience pour les VMAs depuis longtemps. Cheveux longs jusqu'aux épaules et en pétard, chemisette transparente sur pantalon de cuir plus que moulant, chaussé de santiags à talon, il a commencé son premier speech de la soirée en toute simplicité. "Il y a des gens qui disent que les Etats-Unis ne sont pas prêts à élire un président noir, mais je sais que l'Amérique est un pays qui pense au futur parce que sinon vous n'auriez jamais laissé cet espèce de cowboy attardé être votre président pendant huit ans".

Et encore, son public a échappé à une blague censurée par MTV, sur la fille enceinte de Sarah Palin, la candidate à la vice présidence de John McCain: "Je voulais dire que Palin forçait sa fille ado à avoir le bébé parce qu'elle est tellement anti avortement, mais qu'aussi, en tant que républicaine, elle est pour la peine de mort, et que donc elle allait faire passer sa fille à la chaise électrique pour lui apprendre à se comporter comme une petite trainée."

Russell aime le sexe. Récompensé par le journal The Sun comme "Baiseur de l'année" à deux reprises, on pourrait même penser qu’il il aime un peu trop le sexe. Il a fait plusieurs séjours en rehab pour cause d'addiction au sexe, et s'est fait renvoyer de son dernier centre de désintoxication pour cause de... relations sexuelles avec les autres patientes.

Cette sexualité débridée lui a tout de même permis de décrocher le rôle d’Aldous Snow, musicien obsédé et "homme fatal" dans "Sans Sarah rien ne va", avant que Judd Appatow, le réalisateur, ne décide carrément de faire de Russell, et d'Aldous, la star de son prochain film. Pendant les VMAs, le comique n'a pas arrêté les blagues sur la virginité des Jonas Brothers, ce boys band dont chaque membre porte une "purity ring", une bague pour dire qu'ils ne feront pas l'amour jusqu'au mariage. Après s'être fait remonté les bretelles, Russell s'est dit "gêné de ne pas avoir arrêter de parler de leurs veux de chasteté, et j'aimerais profiter de cette occasion pour dire que personne devrait plus jamais faire l'amour. Folle idée. Quelle drôle de façon de passer une soirée."

The idea was to get a bunch of film and comic sites involved with the gag and see the fan boy reaction, the beauty part is that as I live in Australia, we get April Fools Day first, so suspicion would have been minimal. Kristen Bell's quotes saying she'd like to play Harley Quinn was going to be the base of the gag, the idea was she was purposely going around saying that when in actual fact she'd already been cast, to sort of throw people off the scent, then this image would have been released by a WB 'insider'. I'm curious to know how all that would have played out. Anyway, here's the before and after shot below.

Primeiro de tudo:
60º Emmy = zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. Foi o mais previsível que me lembro de ter visto. Fora que o Emmy tem dado trela demais para realities (o que também = zzzzzz, na minha opinião). Mas devo admitir que uma das poucas piadas boas da noite foi a apresentação do prêmio de melhor host de reality show. Ah, a diferenciação de comédia e drama também foi ótima!)

Heroes: 3x01 e 3x02 = falaram tão mal que rolou uma preguiça de assistir... só fui ver hoje, sábado, quase uma semana depois de ir ao ar. De fato, como um amigo resumiu no twitter, eles escrevem Heroes com a bunda (pode falar bunda no wordpress?). Mas não sei se é porque tava esperando o PIOR, algo como uma mistura daquela série The Tick com Jericho, não sofri tanto com a experiência, all in all. Claro que ainda me pergunto porque raios eu assisto aquela coisa... mas não consigo desistir, preciso saber como raios a Claire vai virar a Lara Croft no futuro (aquela primeira cena me fez ficar com vontade de desistir de ver o resto), o Jess Mariano conseguindo aquela cicatriz (ou será que essa parte eles já mostraram...? Menino, eu não tô é entendendo mais nada dessa série, viu). E, o mais importante de tudo, enquanto não sai o tal filme de Veronica Mars, isso é o mais perto que vou chegar de ver V em ação ao lado de Weevil again! OMG, que surpresa. Tipo assim, só eu não sabia?! Comecei a surtar aqui! Francis Capra em Heroes! Quando me deparei com Weevil tentando ajudar Veronica, comecei a achar que também adquiri poderes depois de ver 80 minutos do nossos X-Men televisivos e voltei pro passado. Entrei no túnel do tempo diretamente pra CW de 2006, na época em que a alta sociedade de Nova York era irrelevante pra Kristen Bell e o que importava mesmo era fazer justiça em Neptune! Enfim, aposto que foi very cool pra todos os fãs de VM, apesar de muito rápido.

Agora, uma confissão... a cena do Mohinder sem camisa e subindo pelas paredes - literalmente! - valeu os outros 78 minutos pensando "WTF"! Como diria a Sra. SeMata, mebabei toda. Claro que depois que a pele dele começa a derreter não é tão bacana assim... Tá, foi mal, não me xinguem pelo momento Samantha Jones. Pronto, passou.

(Misturei Gilmore Girls, Gossip girl, Veronica Mars, Sex and the City, Tomb Raider, Jericho e The Tck, sendo que minha idéia era fazer um resumo rápido do que achei dos dois primeiros episódios de Heroes. Eu não consigo entender como minha mente funciona.)

How I Met Your Mother = como me alonguei demais no Heroes, vou ser rápida e usar a expressão do novo (ou ex-novo) Barney Stinson no episódio: achei DE... wait for it... LIGHTFUL! Tava com uma saudade deles que parece que revi amigos de longa data. Ainda mais que no dia anterior eu vi Forgetting Sarah Marshall e tava precisando ver o Marshall sem ser num shot de nu frontal. (duh, agora que me toquei que rolou essa homenagem com o nome Marshall.)

Two and a Half Men = foi fraquinho. But then again, eu acho a série toda fraquinha, eu só vejo pq eu sou doente. Mas episódio me irritou, pq além de fraquinho, eles copiaram toda a história do Ross e do Joey com a camisinha em Friends quando a Rachel descobre que está grávida. Eu ia copiar os diálogos gêmeos aqui, mas se abro dois sites ao mesmo tempo meu PC trava. E é bom que aí não spoilerizo mais ainda.

Old Christine e Big Bang Theory = foi fraquinho. But then again, eu acho a série toda fraquinha, eu só vejo pq eu sou doente. Ops, já falei isso. Foi divertido, a Christine e a Barb se casando and making a mockery out of gay marriage foi diferente do que eu esperaria, saiu das piadas que a gente sempre espera da série. BBT foi tão irrelevante que não consigo pensar em nada de especial pra dizer. Mesmo porque uma semana e 15 15 episódios das mais varias séries (sim, eu contei) depois já estou misturando uma 20-minute-predictable-comedy-storyline com a outra).

Outras notícias da semana = Sarah Michelle Guellar vai voltar pra tv. Olha só, quem diria. A carreira dela no cinema tava indo tão bem.

Já George Clooney se recusa a participar da última temporada de E.R. Eu no lugar dele também não voltaria. Não pra renegar minhas raízes televisivas e continuar ganhando milhões no cinema, pegando mulheres maravilhosas na Itália, pegando o casal Jolie-Pitt, blá blá blá. Mas porque se ele voltasse, provavelmente os roteiristas iam aproveitar pra também matar o Doutor Doug Ross numa explosão ou com alguma coisa relacionada a um helicóptero. Ele foi um dos poucos que escapou dessa que é a maior causa de morte de médicos na cidade de Chicago, segundo E.R.: explosão ou algo ligado a um helicóptero. WTF (ops, spoilerzei um pouco).

Do Not Disturb = foi cancelado depois de 3 episódios. Eu não sei se isso é bom ou ruim, porque estou cumprindo minha promessa de não começar nenhuma série nova até me formar, no fim do ano. Mas fiquei feliz porque não foi só a série da Amy Sherman-Palladino, The Return of Jezebel James, que passou por essa humilhação este ano.

Ops. Acabei nem sendo rápida, nem escrevendo alguma coisa séria. Preciso correr, um dia eu vou me dedicar direito a esse blog e escrever resenhas que possam ser chamadas de resenhas (eu já falei isso antes, né? Droga.) Grey's Anatomy, E.R., de que já falei um pouquinho, My Name is Earl etc ficam pra outro dia.

Okay.  So I had to work the night shift on Monday and therefore I missed the premiere of Heroes.  And being one in the world without digital cable or the technology of DVR or TiVo yet, I had to go to my last resort... recording the show on a VHS tape!  That's right, that technology still exists.  And so last night was MY Season 3 premiere of Heroes.

As I was about five minutes into all of that red carpet hooplah, I fast forwarded past that garbage to the actual episode.  I mean, they were going to introduce all the characters and just repeat the same stuff we already know, and then they were showing some sneak previews for the upcoming episode... just show me the damn premiere already. 

Anyway, after all the let down during the second season, everyone hyped up the third season by saying it went back to the excitement and the cliffhangers of the first.  Though the magic in first season will be impossible to recapture, I was hoping the best for the start of the third.

The first episode picked up right where the second season left off... kind of.  We see Claire and Peter of the future, squaring off.  Claire is intense and disturbed, holding a gun pointed directly at Peter's head.  Peter looks concerned, but knows she won't harm him.  He expresses some kind of guilt for witnessing the dark path Claire ended up in.  And then Claire shoots, Peter freezes time, gets out of the way and takes her gun, and then time travels.

That was a stunning opening shot.  It just threw the audience head first into a plot point from the future, but will be the starting point to the Villain's story arc.  And then we return to present when Nathan Petrelli's about to announce how he and many others have abilities, until he gets shot.  It's revealed that Peter from the future shot him.  I know!  Whoa!  That was the last person I expected... Hell, I never even thought of that possibility.  Well... who would?

Okay, so now we get into the thick of things.  It seems Future Peter is going to be highly involved with everything that goes on in “Villains.”  He’s been to the future, saw something he didn’t like, and is trying to reverse it by changing the past.  Sound familiar?  Are you as sick an tired with characters who can read the future as I am? 

There were a lot of ups and downs within the two episodes opening the third season.  I'm glad that they decided to answer the pivotal cliffhanger from last season immediately... not like Season Two when they waited until about the eighth episode to explain what happened four months before.

The episodes moved along at a fairly good pace, yet a little slow at times.  It all depended on which characters you like and which characters you find boring.  For me, I never liked the whole Nikki or Jessica storyline.  And now she’s Tracy… and she has Sub-Zero’s power?  I was one of the many who were saying, “Good riddance” when Nikki supposedly died in the Season 2 finale, but now she’s back and more boring than ever.  Her whole family is boring.  I don’t care about this little boy who can talk with electronics, and his cousin who basically downloads skills like Neo in The Matrix.  I’m glad they weren’t in the premiere, but you know they’re going to pop up soon.

And Hiro… what the hell?!  Before watching the premiere I was trying to determine who has the potential of becoming a “villain” and who would likely stay good.  Of course, Hiro was the first choice to remain good.  He’s naïve, but his heart is full of gold.  So why is he now involved in the silliest storyline?  His father left him a tape that reveals that in the safe in the room, there’s a part of a secret that if it ever falls into the wrong hands, the world could end.  So Hiro just ignores his late father’s request of keeping it secret and opens the safe (from a button that was lying on his desk).  And how does he get pass the security defense of the safe… with his fingerprint!  So Hiro has the half piece of laminated paper for about a second until it vanishes right before his eyes.  Hiro, meet your arch rival… Flash Girl.  She’s so fast that she defies time… so Hiro’s time bending power is useless against her.  Oooohhh snap!  So now they’re in the middle of a cat and mouse chase.  Silly… yes.  Necessary?  We’ll have to wait and see.

My favorite part of the premiere was Sylar.  He forcefully took Claire’s essence and is now seemingly unstoppable… until Elle blows up, knocking him unconscious.  Claire is now more vulnerable than ever, without feeling, without a soul.  Heroes touched upon this situation rather delicately, and in my opinion very tastefully.  When Claire tells her mom what happened, she suspects the worst and thinks Sylar sexually assaulted her daughter.  She wasn’t raped, but in a way the psychological after effects were similar.  She was forced to give something up, she was hurt, and now she’s numb to the world. 

I think I touched upon the major points of the premiere.  Of course there are many other minor details, which I’m sure that’ll play a bigger part than it seems.  These include:
 - Parkman being stranded in the dessert by Future Peter.  He is saved by a black man who… well you guess it, can read the future.
 - Dr. Suresh injected himself and now has powers… but wait, he’s also mutating into… I don’t know, some kind of Bug-Man!  Just as he was the only one without a power… now everyone has a power!  Except…
 - Noah’s still around, but his purpose is fleeing.  He’s not with his family and since Bob’s dead, he’s taking orders from Mrs. Petrelli.  And in those commercials it shows he’s going to be working with Sylar?  What’s going on?!
 - I don’t know Elle’s purpose either… but who cares.  Keep Kristen Bell on the show for as long as possible.  Her Pikachu powers are awesome.  And then maybe if she can team up with Weevil… oh wait, but now that’s Present Peter trapped inside the inmate of Level 5’s body… but if Veronica and Weevil reunite, maybe there will be a Veronica Mars reunion!  Okay, sorry… I got off topic.
 - Present Peter inside a Level 5 inmate’s body.  And they escape, causing havoc in the outside world.  This is going to be an awesome storyline.  Who’s going to take them down?
 - And what was up with Ando from the future killing Hiro?!  It was pretty awesome, but that better not happen.
 
Was there anything else?  Well, the premiere was solid, opened a lot of questions, caused a lot of excited and some let downs.  It doesn’t matter.  I enjoyed the second season when everyone else loathed it.  I’m sure I’ll enjoy the third season as well.

One thing I would like to clarify is the Catwoman poster, I read a lot of comments saying she looks likes she's got stubble, it's actually a film grain effect that was suppose to go with the deteriorated look of the whole design, but I guess I can see how people can misinterpret that, it wasn't my intent though, the last thing I would want is a Catwoman with a Five O'clock shadow. :)
