Louis Vuitton is one of the most respected names in the world of bags and accessories.

And any bag lover who has the money as well owns at least one of LV's bags. Japan got a first hand taste of LV on Wednesday night. Comme des Garçons and Louis Vuitton have set up a temporary store in Tokyo. As expected there was a crowd of local celebrities and fashion editors who rushed here to make sure they got their piece of Rei Kawakubo's custom-designed bags for the French house. You will find the store in the trendy Aoyama district. It is a little faux brick building and the interiors are minimalist just like Comme des Garçons' likes it. You can expect gray walls and an exposed metal staircase that looks quite chic.

You will find racks holding up Louis Vuitton boxes. You get a trendy warehouse feel here. Lucky ass Tokyo residents!

The new Pop-up shop is situated in the fashion district of Aoyama and according to WWD, the interiors are true to Comme des Garçons’ spare aesthetic, with gray concrete walls and an exposed metal staircase. Steel boxes coated in LV-logo gold flock are mounted on the walls of the lower level.

Neil and I stayed at the Threadneedles Hotel, part of the Eton Collection. Prior to our trip, I was reading an online brochure of this hotel and knew beforehand what I could expect - marble floors and pillars at the luxurious lobby, sunlight filtering through the 19th century stained-glass dome, spacious state-of-the-art rooms, Egyptian cotton bed linen and goose down duvets, and other features that made it one of Conde Nast Traveller's 50 hottest hotels in the world. 

But more than these grand features, it's the small details that endear. Like that purple rubber duckie sitting on the limestone bathtub beside a jar of lavender bath salts ready for sprinkling. Or those leather swatch handles in the wardrobe and drawers. Or having a bottle of water - with an option for either sparkling or still - by your bedside upon the customary turndown. Or for a Louis Vuitton lover, those beauty trunks and hatbox that sit lovely in the lobby's bookshelves. Service is also topnotch and a smile is always on offer.

Since it was located in the heart of London's financial district, the City, it was only forthcoming that Day One led us to sites around and close to the oldest part of the capital. Walking past the characteristic Swiss Re Headquarters located close to the Threadneedles, we found ourselves crossing the Thames River on the unpretentious London Bridge. A short stroll away led us to the Tower Bridge and what a breathtaking moment that was!  Seeing one of the perpetual subjects of postcards and travel programs in person was a dream come true. Interesting how the city mixes the modern with the old as there stands the striking rounded glass structure of the City Hall next to the towers. Click click click. This spot was perfect for Kodak Panasonic Lumix DMC TZ1 moments. 

Walking towards the opposite direction, we found ourselves on the Millenium Bridge leading to St. Paul's Cathedral, a famous London landmark with its impressive dome and Baroque architectural style. The cathedral was closed the time we reached there so we didn't get to see the interiors. With tired feet and a willing wandering spirit, we proceeded to walk all the way to the London Eye to retrieve our tickets for the Champagne Flight the day after, and crossing the Thames to the other side for the magnificent Big Ben and Houses of Parliament. I'm telling you this is just Day One and we've almost covered the London of my dreams.

And that was our last stop for the afternoon. We headed back to our hotel and had dinner at the fab pan-Asian restaurant Pacific Oriental just across it. We slept for a few hours before we headed out to Soho and danced until four.

Who said we had tired feet?

Somehow, Vogue India editors thought that a fashion spread using every day regular citizens to model accessories was a good idea. Now, on the base of it, this doesn't seem so bad. We like real people in fashion spreads. But as Jossip pointed out: we usually reserve our "thanks for not using anorexic models" applause for those who don't substitute them with "skinny because of malnourishment" persons. And on top of that you then realize that the majority of the Indian population subsists on just over $1 a day and there isn't a single item in the spread that is under $100. Meaning that to actually own any of the items in the fashion spread the people pictured would have to save months to years to actually purchase any of them.

Yes, India does have a burgeoning middle class. Yes, Vogue is doing some branding. Yes, there are numbers of people in India that can afford these items. I get capitalism. But why not use 'real' Indians from this middle class instead of individuals who appear to be from a much more working class background. I'm not even going to go into stereotypes and appropriation here (the magazine may be Indian, but the products aren't).

But I guess another reason I don't actually buy 'high fashion' is that I just don't understand why if you have enough money to actually purchase such items you would when there are about a bajillion other things that the money could go to and actually do some good. Sigh.

P.S. Watched the Palin speech last night. Don't remember which reporter it was, but she was talking to delegates and remarked about how women at the convention and across the nation seemed to be having a visceral reaction (meant in a positive way) to Sarah Palin's speech. I know I can be counted in that category, as long as barfiness is a visceral reaction.

Tokyo- Yesterday the highly anticipated Comme des Garcon and Louis Vuitton pop-up shop opened to the likes of local Celebrities and fashion editors, who were the first to see the the pop-up shop in the fashion district of Aoyama.

WWD Reports that the look of the store is true to Rei Kawakubo’s aesthetic decorated with Flocked steel wall mounted boxes on gray concrete walls. The new store opens up to the public today and will be there for three months.

I was meaning to get the black multicolore scarf to go with my Wapity, but the lovely SA at the relaxed Sloane Street boutique pulled out several scarves for me to see and when I tried this, I was sold.

The Wall Street Journal showcased its latest attempt to broaden its appeal beyond the business reader on Wednesday -- introducing a new, glossy weekend magazine devoted to high fashion, preppy sports and luxury travel.

Called WSJ., the magazine hits the market during a prolonged and serious slump in the publishing business, which has struggled to keep advertisers who would rather spend their increasingly limited marketing budgets elsewhere, particularly the Web.

Wall Street Journal executives say they gave no thought to delaying the magazine, however, and instead point out that the magazine expands the newspaper's advertising base. When it launches September 6, the magazine will have 51 advertisers, of which 19 are new to the newspaper's franchise.

"This is a phenomenal response in a very, very challenging market," said Michael Rooney, chief revenue officer at the Wall Street Journal.

Similar in feel to the Financial Times' "How to Spend It," the Wall Street Journal rolls out its version of a lifestyle magazine to a circulation of 960,000. It will be included in the weekend edition of The Wall Street Journal in the United States and the Friday edition of the newspaper in Asia and Europe. WSJ. appears quarterly before becoming monthly in mid-2009.

Rooney said the magazine draws "the ultimate demographic," describing a reader with an average household income of $265,000 and $2.9 million in assets, who took seven leisure trips last year and spent 16 days sailing.

A glossy 104 pages with advertisers such as Burberry, Louis Vuitton and British Airways, the initial issue is devoted to stories about rare mushrooms, fashion for dogs, folk art and Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin's workout routine.

Enquanto os fãs da Madonna passam por filas gigantescas, dormindo na rua, vendo cambista furando fila e ameaçando tocar fogo no puteiro se não fossem os primeiros a comprar, lendo que "famosos" estão com dificuldades de conseguir vips, sentindo a 4fun levando o nome a sério, fazendo com que todos tomem de 4 com o péssimo atendimento, site que não suporta a demanda, má organização... a musa põe o corpo pra trabalhar na academia em Londres, antes de embarcar pra Amsterdã, na Holanda, e sai desfilando sua humilde bolsa "Monogram pulp', da Louis Vuitton, com preço singelo de 2 mil euros.

Além disso, parte da equipe tá surtando e ameaçando deixar a cantora sozinha no palco, porque eles estão sendo jogados em hóteis meia boca, enquanto titia Madonna fica toda bonita num quarto como Chateau Saint Jeannet, com diariazinha humilde de US$ 22 mil.

E, francamente, achei esse último disco um saco. Só "4 minutes" e "Give it 2 Me" salvam! Fora o figurino péssimo que parece ter sido feito as pressas, fora ela querendo esfregar que tá malhada. Madonna já foi melhor ou é impressão?! Hard Candy...

I really like the last one in Damier Azur, but then again I already have a Damier Ebene Pocket Agenda. Who needs two agenda, right? I just hope this line gets extended to other small leather goods and accessories.

The concept shop was designed by Kawaakubo, and the bags will only be available at this one location. The space closes its doors in Decemember, plus you must place an order in person (one order and style per person) and it will be made over several months for you.

Yves Carcelle, Louis Vuitton’s president and chief executive officer, explained its genesis this way:

“In one of my meetings with Marc Jacobs, he said, ‘I have a request for you. You know how much I love Rei; well, I met her the other day and she mentioned that she’d love to do something with Louis Vuitton.’”

As it turns out, Kawakubo was captivated by the Louis Vuitton monogram store when it opened in Tokyo in 1978, but couldn’t afford a bag at the time because she was starting her label. These days, she could buy as many as she wants, but she prefers to be on the other side of the business equation. Of the six bags, two are re-editions of styles from the 1970s; two are LV classics customized by Kawakubo; and two are Kawakubo originals. “They’re very kawaii,” said Carcelle. “Only a Japanese woman could’ve made them."
