The factory, as Jobs described it, had everything: robots, lasers, tolerances within one 10,000th of an inch, defect rates of less that 17 parts per million -- one tenth the rest of the industry's -- and the speed to turn out 60 machines a day. (link)

Now, according to a pair of reports in 9 to 5 Mac and Computerworld Blogs, Jobs has built that plant's successor: a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility that is already turning out the new line of MacBook and MacBook Pros that Apple is expected to introduce on Oct. 14.

This factory, according to Seth Weintraub, a tech reporter with good sources within Apple and a knack for correctly predicting the company's next moves, is the answer to a question that has been haunting Apple watchers for the past month: What is "the Brick"?

The Brick, Weintraub says, is not a new Apple TV, a table-sized Mac, a wireless USB hub, a Windows-smashing software breakthrough -- or any of the other ideas put forward in the month of fevered speculation since Weintraub's 9-to-5 colleague Cleve Nettles first posed the question. What the Brick really is, according to Weintraub's sources, is a block of high-quality, aircraft grade aluminum out of which Apple's new laptops will be carved using robot-controlled lasers and high-powered jets of water in Jobs' new factory.

"It is totally revolutionary, a game changer," writes Weintraub. "One of the biggest Apple innovations in a decade." (link)

It may also be the answer to another mystery that has bedeviled Apple watchers -- the innovation that Apple CFO Peter Oppenheimer, speaking at the last quarterly earnings conference call, warned analysts would cut deeply into Apple's near term operating margins but result in something that "Apple's competitors won't be able to match" for years to come. Weintraub paints a picture, drawn heavily from a long piece in The Mac Observer by John Martellaro, a former NASA engineer and Apple manager, of a nonpolluting, energy-efficient, wind- or solar-power plant, built in the United States, that would free Apple of its dependence on Chinese manufacturers (and unpleasant Chinese labor conditions) and fulfill Steve Jobs' long-held dream of moving Apple both up and down the value chain -- building a legacy at Apple that could survive and prosper long after he is gone.

"An Apple factory (or two), in the right place," writes Marellaro, "costing several billions would be a worthy endeavor for Apple and its cash. It would achieve the grandest goals for Apple's technical future, make a contribution to the planet and its people's well being and help insure Apple's financial and political security." (link)

Marellaro concludes on a wistful note: "But, sigh, it's just an idea"

Era cosa de tiempo. La version chilena de Next, el programa gringo de citas en donde uno elige entre la plata o la segunda cita, llego finalmente a nuestro pais. El canal encargado de arriesarse con esta apuesta, es megavision, y dejenme decirles que el programa es bien malo. 

Nunca he visto uno entero, pero porque en verdad me da verguenza ajena. Un nivel de sobre-actuacion increible, en donde les deben decir hasta con que pie caminar primero. Realmente es un programa patetico, y nuevamente, los chilenos hemos copiado de muy mala manera un programa que es bueno, y entretenido. Eso me lleva  a la pregunta, es problema de la implementacion, o somos los chilenos el problema. Yo creo que es un poco de cada cosa. Los chilenos no somos lo mismo que los gringos. Tenemos caractericticas distintas, y personalidades muy diferentes, por lo que no es buena idea cuando se copian estos tipos de programas, que estan pensados para los gringos. 

La parte de cuando estan todos en el bus, y hacen exactamente lo mismo de los gringos (no se si por pauta o por instinto propio), de preguntarse como sera la mujer u hombre, y cuanto va a durar la persona que recien salio. Las bromas que se hacen, los comentarios, todo es tan pauteado que llega a dar rabia, y lo mejor que puede hacer uno es cambiar el canal, o simplemente apagar la tele.

Nuevamente apelo a la falta de imaginacion que existe dentro de los canales de television, o tal vez la falta de cojones, ya que prefieren arriesgarse con un programa hecho para gringos, en vez de arriesgarse o crear un programa para chilenos. La segunda opcion, sin importar el resultado, tiene el merito de que es creacion propia.

Lo unico que pido es que no se copien mas programas de mtv, porque si alguna vez veo The X Effect en algun canal nacional, me dara mucha verguenza.

Nintendo has announced the new DSi at its Fall presentation in Japan. The device features a dual touchscreen layout almost identical to the DS Lite, though the company is calling it a "third platform," which means it's complementing the existing system, not necessarily replacing it. Looks-wise there's not much different happening, but it's some 12 percent thinner -- partly because it omits the GBA cartridge slot. The displays are slightly larger, at 3.25 inches apiece, and there's an external three megapixel camera as well as a front-facing camera located on the inside hinge. The DSi has an SD slot and internal storage -- we're not sure how much at the moment -- but photos can be taken directly to the Wii Photo Channel on the card. Nintendo's also launching an online "DSi Shop," which will sell content directly over WiFi, including a free browser app and "DS Ware" game -- and the company will offer free wireless connectivity at "Nintendo Zone" hotspots located in Japanese McDonalds. The shop will take the newly-renamed Nintendo Points (formerly Wii Points), 1000 of which will come free with the handheld until March 2010, and content will be priced in 200 / 500 / 800 point brackets. The DSi will come in white or black finishes, and will cost ¥18,900 ($178) when it launches in Japan on November 1st -- the rest of us will have to wait until next year.

Adesso passiamo ad un’altra grande artista: Pink. Infatti in questi giorni è uscito il suo nuovo singolo So What, il cui video, tra MTV e All Music, sta letteralmente infuocando i nostri televisori!!! Il video infatti è molto simpatico e divertente, come d’altronde sono sempre tutti i video di pink. La canzone molto orecchiabile ed energetica e anch’essa è il primo singolo di un nuovo album: Funhouse. K e ne pensate?

Adesso l’ultima nuova canzone. Si tratta di Next Plane Home di Daniel Powter. Per chi non se lo ricordasse si tratta di quel cantante che ebbe un enorme successo con Bad Day qualche anno fa. Next Plane Home è una canzone allegra e molto melodica. Il video è molto semplice; unica nota positiva del video è che verso la fine si può vedere la figlia di Daniel.

Answer: The answers to your questions are more complicated than you might think. There are two issues at play here: 1) the literal meaning of the words "next Friday" and "last Monday," and 2) the unique ways that these phrases are actually used in casual speech. If today is Wednesday (and it is), then according to the literal meaning, there is no question that "last Monday" ought to mean "the day before yesterday," and "next Friday" ought to mean "the day after tomorrow." However, when I thought for a few moments about my own everyday speech, I discovered that I tend to use "last Monday" to mean "Monday of last week" and "next Friday" to mean "Friday of next week." I grew curious, and so I conducted an informal poll of native English speakers in my office. The results were telling: some people said that "last Monday" means "two days ago," others said it means "on Monday of last week," and some people thought it could have either meaning.
