Tony Alamo is at it again. Talk about a guy who just can’t stay out of the news, and for all of the wrong reasons…

Recently one of Tony Alamo’s shills, Thomas Richards, declared me to be a Jesuit coadjutor. I wonder what he has to say about the fact that ole Tony has his bum in a bind again? Over the weekend I visited the Tony Alamo’s ministerial website and listened to the recording of him asking children and young adults whether or not he ever molested them. Then Tony’s wife gives her blast about how this is all the work of the evil Vatican. (Don’t get Thomas Richards wound up…) Then Tony rambled on about how God tells him what he should eat and what shoes to wear. And how well connected he was in Hollywood and how he was a professional bodybuilder and how all the movie studios wanted to make films of his kid…

Oh, I almost forgot, he also called his accusers homosexuals and paedophiles. Not to say that these accusers are or aren’t homosexuals and paedophiles but I guess it would make Tony feel better that his accusers weren’t straight like him.

So I kinda thought to myself, “Wow! The young ones that Tony picked out to record their testimonies all said ‘no, we weren’t molested! Tony Alamo is the best man in the world.’ That’s it. The Tony has spoken, I believe it and that settles it!”

Not.

Tony, if you are guilty then may you rot in hell. If you are innocent, well, here’s some advice: It is probably time you started to watch out who your running buddies are. If these folks accusing you are so God awful then how did they get close to you? Isn’t it kind of like Jerry Falwell knowing that there was a cartoon of him committing incest with his mother in Hustler magazine? Surely it wasn’t a Christian who alerted him to this?!?

Maybe since I am from the same part of Arkansas as where the Tony Alamo Ministry has its campus and since I am such an obvious Jesuit coadjutor (according to Thomas Richards) and since the Vatican is behind all of this (according to Mrs. Alamo), then maybe I was the one who was working behind the scenes to bring Tony’s downfall? Nah!

But wouldn’t it be nice?

Footnote:
Last Friday, my high school football team, the Prescott Curly Wolves made a visit to Foulk, Arkansas. This wasn’t to visit Tony Alamo’s ministry though. It was to beat the pants off the local football team.

I’ve been into Ratatat for a while. I actually first heard them on NPR–not All Songs Con

I've been into Ratatat for a while. I actually first heard them on NPR--not All Songs Considered, strangely enough, just as transition music the first time--and in one of those odd coincidences a friend put "Seventeen Years" on a mix for me just as I was thinking I should maybe buy some of their stuff.

Time passed, and I bought all of their albums that I could find (Mixtapes vol. I still eludes me), and I even tried to go see them last year but waited too long and the show was sold out. So when I heard they were coming back to Boston, I decided to get tickets and hoped I'd convince someone to go with me.

That someone turned out to be Sig Fig, and thank goodness--it turned out to be the best show I've ever seen. Hands down.

The first act started out with two guys coming onstage wearing sunglasses and bags over their faces. (For all but the first number it was only one guy, and I was pretty sure he went by p*rock, but the website for the Paradise is currently listing him as e*rock. So who knows.) I imagine the intention was something along the lines of "I am doing really extremely cool things with electronic media and I want you to pay attention to that instead of me," but the effect was more like "I'm kind of a pasty skinny nerd, and I'd like you to ignore that." We're all nerds too, guy. Just own it.

Next up was Panther. I don't really like to bash lesser-known groups, so let me just say that these two guys seem to really like each other and enjoy touring.

And then, the awesome started.

If you've heard Ratatat's studio stuff (you should. You really should.) you've probably thought, "Oh, these guys are really good, but I bet there's no way they're this polished live. In fact, how would they even do this live? I bet like ninety percent of this is just crazy electronic stuff anyway."

You would be wrong.

The word we kept coming back to was "tight." These are insanely tight guitarists. Yes, they do loop in some pre-recorded stuff, but the vast majority of the awesome guitar work? Yeah, they do that live. And it's better. I wouldn't have imagined that it could be any cooler than it is on their albums, but oh my, was I ever totally wrong.

At this point I run the risk of just sounding really dreamy-eyed, so I'll just stop and say you should buy everything Ratatat has ever recorded, and then go see them live. A lot.

OMG! I’m so sorry that I have not been on the site for such a long time. My biggest apologie

OMG! I'm so sorry that I have not been on the site for such a long time. My biggest apologies! My reason is private but all that I can say is that it was a family emergency. It'll never happen again! HEHE! Well, I missed out on a lot to tell you, but from now on... I'll be the first. Well, tonight is the second day premeire of "Dancing With The Stars". Let me say, so far my favs are definatly Kim Kardashian, Rocco Dispirito, Lance Bass, and Toni Braxton! Those peeps were the bomb last night! Oh My Gosh! Their dances were nothing but on fire. No offence to Lance Bass, but his number was super sexy... he so did not seem as if he was gay! Kim Kardashian fox-trotted herself to the Pink Panther Theme Song. Just a little review for you guys. Toon in tonight @ 9/8 central at ABC to see their second dance. This season already started making history by having the partners dance TWO pieces in one week, and having TWO pairs sent home. Let me tell you up front, I had thirteen votes per phone and per account at www.abc.com, and I split the votes between Kim Kardashian, Toni Braxton, and Lance Bass with my EIGHT accounts at www.abc.com and my cell and my home phone. LOL! I already know that this is going to be my guilty pleasure tv show besides Project Runway and America's Next Top Model. Speaking of ANTM, the first transgender person is competing this season for the title. WOW, but I feel bad for her because, since there always are bitches, the pick on her. But she has a huge advantage because last season, she was posing as an extra in the "Homeless" photoshoot. Tyra Banks (Judge, Extecutive Producer, and Creator) pin-pointed out that Isis' (the history making contestant) fierceness stood out, and she was an extra, in other words, it was bad for the models that where told to pose and STAND OUT. Okay guys I gotta go, Dancing with the Stars is begining right now! Catch it while you can! Okay, bye bye!

from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can Edit

It is possible to install Mac OS X on your Windows PC. A small software package called PearPC emulates the Mac hardware on your PC. You can even install many Mac programs.

if (window.showTocToggle) { var tocShowText = "show"; var tocHideText = "hide"; showTocToggle(); }

Steps

Decompress the PearPC archive into a directory such as "C:\PearPC".

Create your ISO file from the Mac OS X 10.3 installation CD 1 using your favorite burning/ripping software. You can find documentation at the software's website for creating ISO image files.

Save the ISO file to the PearPC directory as "macosx10.3.iso".

Install the PearPC Control Panel and start it up. Click "File">"Create Virtual Hard Drive". When the window opens, under "Hard Drive Size", move the slider till you get the virtual size you want. 3GB is plenty to install the operating system.

Click "Browse". Browse your way to the PearPC directory, and save the HD image as "MacHD3GB.img". Once you've done that, click "Create Hard Disk".

Click "File">"New Configuration File" with the PearPC Control Panel. A Wizard pops up.

Now that you're looking at the Wizard window, click "Continue". Next to "PearPC Specifics", click "Browse", and find "ppc.exe" which is in the PearPC directory you extracted it to. Use which ever one of the icons you want to.

Under "Primary IDE Device", click "Browse", and find the hard drive image we just created, "MacHD3GB.img".

Under "Memory Size" move the slider to how much virtual RAM you want Mac OS X to have. You can get by with 128MB, but 256MB or 512MB is better. Its ok to set this higher than the amount of actual RAM you have installed in your computer.

Click "Continue".

Under "PearPC Additional Options", set the video mode you want. If you are using 1024x768 with Windows, you can you can use it for PearPC. You must pick "32" for the color depth. There is a small bug in the PearPC Control Panel, that if you pick "16", PearPC will not start. For "Video Driver", put either "video.x", or the full path to the file, which should be "C:\PearPC\video.x". CPU PVR should be set to "G3". That's the PowerPC processor you going to emulate. Even though you can pick "G4", don't, PearPC won't work. Leave "Fullscreen Key Combo" and "Mouse Grab Combo" to their defaults.

We're not going to setup Networking with this howto, so leave "Enable Networking" unchecked.

Leave everything else on this window the default. Click "Finish".

On the last window, enter a name for this PearPC configuration. Just name it "Mac OS X Panther". For location, leave the filename pearpc.cfg, but save it in the same directory as PearPC, which should be "C:\PearPC".

Click "Finish".

Unfortunately, the PearPC Control Panel isn't perfect. We need to make a small change to the pearpc.cfg file we created with it. Open My Computer, and browse to your PearPC directory. Open the file "pearpc.cfg" with Notepad. Add these 3 lines to the bottom of the file (without the asterisks):

pci_ide0_slave_installed = 1

pci_ide0_slave_image = "C:\PearPC\macosx10.3.iso"

pci_ide0_slave_type = "cdrom"

Save the file and close Notepad.

Now its time to run PearPC and install Mac OS X. Double-click the "Mac OS X" icon in the PearPC Control Panel (or whatever you named it). This starts PearPC. You'll be given a couple options on which drive to boot from, the HD, or CDROM. Choose CDROM.

Mac OS X 10.3 should start installing itself. When prompted, choose to format the HD. THIS IS NOT YOUR ACTUAL HD, BUT THE VIRTUAL 3GB HD.

Follow all the instructions. Once Mac OS X 10.3 has been installed, you're done! You can now run OS X at any time by running the PearPC Control Panel and clicking the Mac OS X icon. From now on, choose HD instead of CDROM. Once the OS has been installed, you don't need to select the CDROM ISO again.

Things You'll Need

PearPC - You get that at Sourceforge. Just pick a mirror and save the file on your Windows Desktop.

PearPC Control Panel

Mac OS X 10.3 ISO - You need to create an ISO image of the Mac OS X 10.3 installation CD (you only need CD 1). You can create ISO files with IsoBuster, Ahead Nero, Alcohol 120%, and many other CD burning/ripping programs. Some of these programs can be downloaded off their website and used for a trial period (i.e. long enough to make the ISO file). You can get Mac OS X 10.3 "Panther" for less than $50 here.

F.A.Q.

Q: Isn't Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger) the latest version?

Yes it is, but installing Tiger requires additional steps. I'll explain that in a different article. (Currently Leopard is the latest now)

Q: Where do I get OS X 10.3 if its an old version?

A: Auction websites like eBay, or classified listings like Craigslist.

Q: How fast does it run?

A: Very fast if you select the 1gb option for how much memory the emulation will have, but it depends how much RAM you have on your PC. Recommended 1 or 2gb :D.

Q: Can I keep Windows XP installed on my computer?

A: Yes, you have to. PearPC is emulation software that runs under Windows or Linux.

Q: Is this the real thing, or does it just make Window XP look like OS X?

A: It's the real thing. Mac OS X runs inside a Window (or fullscreen) while running Windows.

Q: Can I surf the web using PearPC/Mac OS X 10.3?

A: Yes, you will have to setup networking which I'll explain in a different howto.

Q: Can I watch videos and listen to music using PearPC/Mac OS X 10.3?

A: Yes and no. You can watch video (although it will be slow), but PearPC doesn't support audio yet.

Resources

The PearPC is a great place to find out more. You can find it at www.pearpc.net.

Tips

There is a panther so large that when it walks the cosmos solar spots flare on earth's sun and Mercury winces, grows fractionally smaller until the increase in heat dissipates and that planet can sigh with regained expansion. In this cup of all universes it stalks gazelles behind stars. Its belly rides close to the edges of Saturns by other names in other systems as it slinks toward its prey. There are many such panthers deep in the systems prowling the stars, devouring gazelles for nourishment and each of them leaving their spoor just as the gazelles leave their vaporous gases-signs predators, in a long line of predators, live by. The gazelles never sleep. In due course they faint from unrest and as their legs drop from behind star cover the dark panther moves in to banquet upon what it has sought for a thousand days or years, surviving through lonely space on the termites shaken from comets as they passed him or her. (There are truly more she panthers than he in the cosmos but they are so far beyond political correctness that such manners of speech go unnoticed. And unsaid.) They are lethargic, these panthers, when full and in their fullness is when gazelles flock to the most distant nebulae to mate and calf new springers and dancers to dash the great savannahs of heaven, leading the waking cats on spiraling journeys across silk clouds hung with rose damask and black velvet robes thrown off for the night by bears that no longer wear fur. They maneuver space and around all objects in space as if traveling the same roads over and over again, never bumping an asteroid or stepping upon an Alp sprung from Venus with hooves that would rive the planet in half or split the ranges away into space to become another moon. No. The infant gazelles race owls in flight and laugh at panthers' sly moves and stealth until their lives spin out.

The hunt has gone on from the beginning. Before gazelles the panthers stalked owls and before panthers the owls stalked the small furry mice of night. These days you can hardly find one! Theoreticians in some quarters of the cosmos surmise the increase in comet termites is due to the decrease in mice of the night. There are dissenters, of course. Of course there are dissenters.

Not really intending this to be a news blog - that's what the feeds on the right hand side of the page are for - but this one is significant enough to make a post:

Scottish driver Dario Franchitti will leave Nascar and return to IndyCar in 2009 to replace Englishman Dan Wheldon at Chip Ganassi Racing.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/motorsport/7595109.stm

It's a surprise, since Dario was saying he wanted to stick with NASCAR even after Ganassi shut down the Number 40 team as a result of being unable to find a long-term sponsor for that operation. But despite a few reasonably successful outings in the Nationwide series, the prospects of any real openings for him in the series were looking bleak.

Finally Ganassi has talked Dario back to where he belongs - open-wheel racing. Much has changed in the 12 months since Dario won the IRL championship, with the newly reunified series enjoying an upturn in support, sponsorship and fan attention: it looks a lot more appealing than the split and troubled open wheel scene he left behind.

The person really screwed by this announcement is Ganassi's current driver Dan Wheldon. Wheldon's had a couple of mediocre seasons, and his salary (after his title- and Indy 500 winning-season) is astronomical compared with the returns that Ganassi is getting. Small wonder then, that dropping Wheldon and fulfilling his promise to Franchitti is very appealing to Chip right now.

Where will Wheldon go? He's probably out of luck. Most of the top IRL teams are sorted, and no one is going to pay him the kind of money he's been getting. His window for F1 is long past, and no one's knocking at his door from NASCAR. It'll be a shame if he is without a drive in 2009, but that's the tough world of motorsport: when you're hot, you're hot; when you're not, you're at the mercy of market forces.

UPDATE: And now we know where Wheldon's going: he's going back to Panther Racing, where he started in 2002 as the team's test driver alongside eventual IRL champion Sam Hornish Jr. He bumps Vitor Meira form the Number 4 car.

While Panther have been one of the leading challengers to the series' dominant 'big three' Penske, Ganassi and AGR in recent years - and Meira has become the "nearly man" of the driver line-up - they have not won a race since Tomas Scheckter's victory in 2005 at Texas. And they certainly don't have anything like the budget to pay Wheldon the sort of money he's been used to in IRL for the last five years.

Gorean society has a firmly established Caste system, a very important aspect of their society. Almost every Free Person of the cities of Gor belongs to a Caste. Priest-Kings, slaves and outlaws are the three primary exceptions who stand outside of the Caste system. Priest-Kings are considered the gods of Gor and slaves are considered property and thus they have no status in the Caste system.

An outlaw is a man who chooses to rebel against the Caste system. He either refuses to follow the Caste he was born into or tries to change his Caste without going through the proper procedures. Such a man, if convicted of being an outlaw, is banished from his city, losing his connection to his Home Stone and losing any Caste status. If he dares to return to a city, he will typically be arrested and subject to impalement. The loss of a connection to your Home Stone and the Caste system is considered a terrible loss and thus there are few outlaws on Gor. Outlaws live a precarious existence on the outskirts of civilization, hiding in the wilds such as the Voltai Mountains or the Northern Forests. Only the Peasant might aid an outlaw as the Peasant feels he has little an outlaw would consider worth stealing. Thus, some outlaws and peasants have formed a tacit agreement to assist each other. The peasant will help to protect the outlaw and the outlaw will then share what he acquires.

There are other people who do not fall into one of these exceptions but are still outside of the Caste system. There are some whom have lost their Caste for various reasons. For example, a slave who is freed has no Caste upon manumission. They must petition to join a Caste, even if they had belonged to a Caste before they had been enslaved. A few people are born outside of the Caste system such as the children of an outlaw. A few occupations are not associated with a Caste such as gardening, domestic service and herding. Some of these people still have a connection to a Home Stone and thus are not in the same predicament as an outlaw though their lack of a Caste is detrimental in various ways. We must also consider the barbarian cultures outside of civilized Gor as they do not have a Caste system. These would include such cultures as the Wagon Peoples, Torvaldslanders, Red Savages, Red Hunters and the Tribesmen of the Tahari. It is the people of the cities who can afford to be specialists within a Caste system. For the barbarian cultures, survival is a primary concern and thus they must become generalists to increase their chances of survival.

Caste is primarily governed by birth and children always take on the Caste of their father. Though upward mobility in the Caste system is infrequent it is still possible. In general, few Goreans try to raise their Caste. It would be even rarer for a Gorean to willingly lower his Caste. One way to change Caste for a woman is through Free Companionship. Normally, mating remains within the same Caste. But, in a Free Companionship a woman is permitted to take the Caste of the man if she so desires. This can serve to raise her caste, even from a Low Caste to a High Caste. But, a man cannot take on the Caste of his Free Companion. A person's abilities can also serve to raise their Caste though on the same hand, a lack of ability can lead to a demotion in your Caste. To change one's caste, the High Council of the city must approve the change based upon your qualifications for the new Caste. The new Caste must also be willing to accept you. Proper bribes can make this process easier, even if your qualifications may be lacking. Men and women are generally promoted and demoted by the same criteria in the Caste system. In practice, few Goreans actually change their Caste because they are proud of their Caste, cognizant that each Caste performs a valuable service for the community. Even the Peasant, the lowest of all the Castes, realizes that without their efforts many people would not be fed.

Except for the Assassin Caste, you must belong to a Home Stone to have a Caste. Each city has their own Caste system and each specific Caste has its own hierarchy particular to that city. Almost the only time that people from the same Caste, but of different cities, might ever meet to discuss Caste issues is at the Sardar Fairs. The Sardar Fairs are a very important time for the different Castes to share information. You cannot belong to a Caste in a city unless you also belong to the Home Stone of that city. In addition, you may only belong to a single Caste. Dual Castes are not permitted on Gor. Caste loyalty is far too important on Gor for someone to have dual loyalties by belonging to multiple Castes. Now, if one changes their Caste they obviously do not lose any knowledge or skills they acquired from the first Caste. But there might be some restrictions on their use of those previously acquired skills. For example, a Physician who became a Warrior might not be permitted any longer to operate in hospitals owned by the Physician's Caste. But, that Physician would still retain his medical knowledge and skills.

Castes also do not have complete monopolies over some of their skills. For example, any person can buy and sell slaves, not just a member of the Slaver's Caste. Anyone can learn how to wield a sword, not just a member of the Warrior's Caste. Obviously such individuals will not know or follow the Caste Codes of those Castes. In addition, there would be some restrictions on their use of those skills. A Caste would not generally permit someone to try to usurp their Caste to a major degree. Goreans also realize that commonly someone cannot practice the work of their Caste until they have satisfactorily completed an apprenticeship. This serves in part as a guarantee to the quality of the product. This guarantee would not apply to a person practicing the skills who does not belong to the Caste. It would be a matter of caveat emptor.

The Caste system is intended to provide some structure and stability to Gorean society. "It is apparently one of the socially stabilizing forces on Gor. It tends to reduce the dislocations, disappointments and tragedies inherent in more mobile structures, in which men are taught that they are failures if they do not manage to make large amounts of money or excel in one of a small number of prestigious professions. The system also helps to keep men of energy and high intelligence in a wide variety of occupations, this preventing the drain of such men into a small number of often artificially desiderated occupations, this tending then to leave lesser men, or frustrated men, to practice other hundreds of arts the survival and maintenance of which are important to a superior civilization." (Dancer of Gor, p.186-7) The welfare of the caste is of the utmost of importance to the individual Gorean. They will subsume their own individual desires and ambitions for the greater good of the Caste. It is clearly that the needs of the many outweigh the needs of the few. This is a concept that is hard to accept for many people from Earth.

The Caste system is divided into High Castes and Low Castes. The High Castes are considered socially superior to the Low Castes. There are only five High Castes and include, in order of status and importance, the Initiates, Scribes, Builders, Physicians and Warriors. The Low Castes includes all of the other established castes. They are ranked in order of importance as well though this hierarchy is not clearly defined in the books. We do know that the Peasant Caste is the lowest Caste in the system. Some of these Castes, High and Low, also contain a number of subcastes. The lines between Caste and subcaste is sometimes vague and the subcaste may consider itself to be a separate Caste though legally it is not. Each Caste has its own Caste colors and some subcastes also have their own Caste colors. These colors are often publically worn as people are proud of their Caste. A person may own documents that certifies their Caste status which can be beneficial if the person is seeking Caste benefits.

The books list a number of Castes and subcastes though sometimes they give few details concerning those Castes and subcastes. The books also mention a number of occupations but fail to explain whether they are actual Castes, subcastes or just positions. Not every occupation on Gor is an actual Caste or subcaste. Some are simply a titled position that has little to do with the actual Caste. For example, a person of any Caste (though most likely only a High Caste) may be an Ambassador. An Ambassador is not a Caste or subcaste, it is simply a titled office. Some occupations that are mentioned would logically be a Caste or subcaste. This scroll will contain numerous speculations in that regard. The books also fail to provide many Caste colors.

HIGH CASTES

INITIATES - The Initiate Caste, also known as the Blessed Caste, is the highest of the five High Castes on Gor. Their Caste color is white, a color that is often associated with impartiality and justice, especially the justice of the Initiates. The Initiates are considered as possible intermediaries to the mysterious Priest Kings. The Initiates are a well-organized and industrious caste. They have many monasteries, holy places and temples throughout Gor. They are also a wealthy and powerful Caste. They regard themselves as the most important Caste on Gor and many cities seem to agree.

SCRIBES - This is a High Caste of Gor, the second most important Caste. Their Caste color is blue and they are the second most important Caste. There are various divisions and rankings, from simple copiers to savants. There are a number of sub-castes including Lawyers, Scholars, Record Keepers, Teachers, Clerks, Historians, Accountants, Geographers, and Cartographers. Much of the copy work, lower-order clerical work, trivial account keeping is done by slaves. The Scribes help render the Gorean language more uniform. They are accepted as arbiters of such matters and stipulate that certain pronounciations and grammatical formations are preferred over others. This is usually done at the Sardar Fairs when the Caste comes together in great numbers.

MAGISTRATES - There are numerous magistrates in the Gorean cities including aediles, archons, praetors, prefects and quaestors. The exact powers and abilities of these different magistrates is not explicitly stated within the books. These magistrate positions are taken from ancient Greek and Roman magistrates. There is also no indication whether Magistrates form their own Caste, are a subcaste of another or are simply positions. The books do state that magistrates are an "office" and that they must wear the robes and fillets of that office. They also carry wands of their office. As an office, that might indicate they are only a position. But, as they are legal officials, it is possible that they might belong to the Scribes Caste. There are merchant magistrates mentioned in the books and they wear white robes trimmed with gold and purple. This would indicate that at least that type of magistrate is part of the Merchant's Caste.

BUILDERS - This is one of the High Castes of Gor and third in line of importance. Their caste color is yellow and their symbol is a metal angle square. This caste includes such subcastes as Architects, Draftsmen, Stonemasons and others. In general, they are the builders and inventors of Gor. The Glass of the Builders, a telescope, is one of their inventions. They also created the energy bulb, a special type of light bulb, over a century ago. With help from the Physician's Caste, they also developed the slave goad. In general, only free men are allowed to build on Gor. Only the city of Port Kar was constructed by slaves. The Builder's Caste can also verify the authenticity of gold. Though this is an important Caste, little is told about it in the books.

PHYSICIANS - The Physician's Caste is one of the five High Castes on Gor, the fourth highest of those castes. Their Caste color is green so most Physicians wear green tunics. Though it is not explicit in the books, it seems logical that many medical specializations would form subcastes of the Physician's Caste. Obstetrics, immunology, pediatrics, and such would make valid subcastes. Certain other specializations would not be necessary on Gor so would be unlikely to form subcastes. Dentistry, psychiatry and geriatrics are fields where the need on Gor is low so they are unlikely to form full subcastes. Major cities would have a Cylinder of Physicians as they do in Ar. Though this is not described in any great detail, it appears it would contain a hospital, research laboratories, a library and maybe even living quarters for some Physicians. Each city would also have their own High Council of Physicians to aid in the governance of that caste within the city. Each Physician's Caste, in every different city, is basically autonomous.

WARRIORS - The Warrior Caste is one of the five High Castes on Gor, though it is the least of the High Castes. Red , or scarlet, is the color of the Warrior Caste and Warriors often wear red tunics to denote their status. The usual garb of a Warrior is a scarlet tunic, sandals and cloak. The books do not explicitly state that there are any subcastes to the Warrior Caste but it seems reasonable that some do exist such as Tarnsmen and Tharlarion Cavalrymen. It can be difficult at times to differentiate between what would be considered an actual subcaste and what would simply be considered a different position. A City Guardsman may simply be a possible position and not an actual subcaste. It generally seems that subcastes possess certain skills that others may not. Being a City Guardsman does not really take special skills but obviously a Tarnsman would.

The Gorean term for a Warrior is "rarius" and the plural form is "rarii." A rarius denotes any type of Warrior and not just a member of the Warrior Caste. The warriors of the Wagon Peoples, Torvaldsland and other such cultures are rarii. This term was never used to refer to a woman in any of the novels. A pride consists of a hundred Warriors. It appears to be an older term that has fell out of use by the timeframe of the novels. In Gor's past, there were once Pride Chiefs who ruled rather than the Ubars and Administrators of today. It is unknown if Pride Chiefs still exist.

LOW CASTES

SLAVERS - Slavers are legally a subcaste of the Merchant Caste though they tend to consider themselves a separate caste. Their caste colors are blue and yellow. Yet, not all slavers belong to the Caste. People of almost any caste can engage in the business of slavery. The primary difference is that these people generally do not derive the major portion of their income from the business of slavery.

ASSASSINS - The Caste of Assassins, also known as the Black Caste, is a mysterious one and the books do not explain a great deal about their Codes, conduct or activities. No one outside of the Caste is supposed to know their secret Codes though a few elements of their Codes are revealed in the books. Some of these Codes are disseminated as rumors so they could actually be intentional disinformation, and thus incorrect. It seems likely that Norman purposefully limited the amount of information about the Assassins to maintain an air of enigma about them.

MERCHANTS - This is a Low Caste though many within the Caste consider themselves a High Caste. Their Caste colors are white and yellow (sometimes called gold). Usually, they wear white robes that are trimmed with gold. Many merchants shave their heads and they are seldom trained in the martial arts. It is clear that there are a number of subcastes of the Merchant's. The Slaver's Caste is legally a sub-caste of the Merchant's Caste though they consider themselves a separate caste. The books do not give a list of the other subcastes. In general, merchants sell items that they do not produce. If someone produces the item that they are selling, they would belong to a Caste different from the Merchant's Caste.

OTHER ROLES

PANTHERS & TALUNAS - A panther girl is a woman who lives in the northern forests of Gor. They are escaped slaves and free women who live by hunting and trading. They hate men and enslave those they capture. They hunt the panthers that roam the forests. They wield spears, bows and knives and can actually be excellent archers. Yet, panther girls do not wield swords. Talunas are white girls who live in the jungles near Schendi. Taluna is an inland dialect word for these girls. It is not a Gorean word. They too use spears, bows and knives but do not wield swords.

Panther girls and talunas do not visit the cities of Gor. They primarily remain in their forests or jungles. If they entered a city, they would most likely be enslaved very quickly. This is because both groups are considered outlaws and outlaws are forbidden entrance to almost all cities. Impalement is a common punishment for outlaws though female outlaws are more often subject to enslavement. Panther girls might possibily be seen at the Sardar fairs where a truce exists and they can safely walk around. It would be a lengthy trek for talunas to attend the Sardar fairs so it is extremely unlikely they would ever attend one.
