Los programas serán una muestra de las nuevas tendencias sonoras de fusión de generos alternetivos como jazz, dub, reggae, turntablism y hip hop con música electrónica un poco experimental, en un playlist que haremos semanalmente. Este primer sábado 19 de Julio estaremos ofreciendo  esta exquisita selección musical, esperamos no se lo pierdan por nada.

Here I sit under the canopy of our festival tent. Mountains surround creating a valley of reverberation: Rasta man vibrations. Rototom Sunsplash reggae festival kicked off 6 days ago in Osoppo, Italy, near to the Austrian border. Udine is the nearest city, and it blessed us with a laundry session (we needed it! And we need it again :) ...and constant stock runs as things roll. The festival grooves on as different reggae bands light up the stages that dot the festival ground. The ground is a local park, a big one shouldered by an equally impressive mountain. The slopes are covered, every inch in the thick green jungle. Days are dead hot, and late afternoons often build bulging clouds which storm and shower for a while until the job is done. The sun returns to a cooler festival scene, refreshed and ready for a few more hours of daylight.

Rain doesn’t stop anybody here, day or night. In fact the energy just gets more and more silly the wetter it gets. Then the only thing to do is drink chai, eat gorgeous food, dance and laugh a lot...anything that keeps you warm! The caravans secret weapon is a healthy dose of frenzied carnival-esque, gypsy madness whenever the sheets of rain are about to get too much! But work never stops...we just dance through it.

Energy was high over the weekend, with locals and many international travelers milling the forested dirt roads. Crowd style is mainly rastfarian, with strong tribal, south american, indian, gypsy influences in the mix. Last night the caravan crew donned freshly selected Venetian masks and masqueraded our fest-turf spinning fire, dancing like crazy-buggers and serving pinacolada to happy customers.

Quite unexpectedly an idea sprouted a few days ago that the 9 women and our baby :) head off to Venice for a day’s bliss. Osoppo was rainy and muddy and being just post weekend buzz, things were looking quiet. What a day...what a city. Majestic, romantic, beautiful, authentic, old, oozing with culture and peeling with plaster. The women had a real female day, strolling, dining, debriefing, inspiring shopping, and exploring the cobblestone alleyways, the bridges and canals. Venice, for all its heart expanding beauty is surely one of the least pram-friendly cities in the world. Silas, our infant representative, soared up and down the thousands of Venetian steps as 9 women grabbed his pram with one hand and carried him over the peaks and troughs of the cities architecture. Valisimo! After predictably getting horribly lost we finally left the dream city in our wake at 1.30 in the morning, returning with a stash of vibrant masks to bring home to the boys for future caravan carnival times.

We floated home to find that the boys had cleared and organized our recently mud smattered site with impressive expertise. Halleluyah! Apparently they found it much easier to get things done with half the people around ...he he...18 spheres create a vortex of chaos from time to time, and this is the social evolution we live with on this project... more of this to come in future entries.

So for now we have 4 days left of reggae rasta rhythms. It’s been a huge ride since leaving Thomas D two weeks ago, and perhaps you’ve been wondering if the caravan was hijacked by some strange alien race of muted beings. It would be a fantastic excuse, but also not nearly as interesting as the real reasons for our disappearance on the cyber front. Our media momentum has simply been usurped by travel across 3 countries, 2 festivals and a throbbing eco-community in Berlin. The demand on caravaners has been to navigate through foreign lands; initiate and master our festival set up; source stock supplies in foreign languages AND work full power 24 hour, no toilet no shower. Yet the stories, pics and interviews are ripe and ready for you...so its just a matter of time till we catch you up on the last 2 weeks.

Dopo il dj set del Kraftwerk Karl Bartos, doppio appuntamento questa settimana. Stasera (giovedì 17), i reduci del Neapolis Festival con Massive Attack, Almamegretta e Raiz, potranno continuare a ballare e scatenarsi all'Arenile.

In programma l'Official After Neapolis Festival, con dj set. Domani sarà invece il turno della reggae-dub band Zion Train, madre del cosiddetto suono "phuture dub sound system", caratterizzato da esibizioni lunghe ed ipnotiche.

Die neue CD der Burschen ist grad pressfrisch im Shop eingetrudelt und probehören könnt ihr das ganze natürlich auch.

I was kinda pesimistic about the entire thing, influenced by people telling me they suck on their MySpace records etc. ... Arriving at the venue I found the band outside drinking mint liqueur, which brought back my hopes of a good eve, and of course the vocal in a mixture of redneck and pirate outfit... "Thats gonna be fun, you know..." :)

Q-Check blasted right from the start with total mega hits! Hm... old-school turbo-folk mega hits? O_o... But in a skate-punk version :) ...which totally rocked! The moment they charmed me completelly was when they introduced their second vocal... an outstanding lady named Roza (Rose) who sang the song "All That She Wants" of Ace Of Base. Needless to say it was a punkish remake :))) Interesting for Q-Check is that both in the extremely funy and smartly selected remakes they do and in their own tracks they manage to introduce a lot of musical influences over the punk base including ragga, hip hop and to my great surprise they have even implemented an idea I want to realise since long, having awesome d'n'b drum solo in one of the songs! :)

Well about Wickeda I believe it's completelly unecessary to say whatever! They have pretty much proved themselves enough everyone to know that everytime it's a good show, good communication with the public, good improvisation and powerful author's songs.

For a while after the very first few songs of Wickeda the entire night was just about to become a failure due to equipment overheating... As complete professionals Erol and the other members managed to continue playing without a single monitor working on stage and made few tracks like that till the equipment is back again. Rather then cooling the spirit of the eve, this poured total new energy to the crowd and having in mind what happened till the end of the gig I should admit that was one of their best shows lately with the entire audience going mad! I should admit I went there accomponied with half of the staff of the agency I work for, including my boss :))) To my great suprprise they all ended up as moshpit activists! Respect to that! :)

On the undisputable encore the band did their only remake of the night, the obligotary these days "Killing In The Name" by Rage Against The Machine with guest vocal Lucho from Q-Check.

Well, sweat, beer and true rock'n'roll of this lovely eve lead to some lovely pics as usual, so time to heat up this anyway boring text. And here we gooo...

Este 26 de Julio habrá un Festival tremendo con Reggae Roots, Ska, Dancehall y Hip Hop. 3 bandas internacionles y 16 bandas locales. Todo esto en 24 magníficas horas.

Por los locales están:

Ascesis Nativa con sus excelentes temas como Sexto Día de su disco Estrictamente Roots. Y también temas como Huellas, Nuestra Lucha, Zion, y Ratas de Madriguera.

Mujoh Guru de Trujillo que ya vimos abriendo el concierto de Don Carlos en el María Angola. La rompen principalmente con su tema Resiste al Genocidio.

Los siempre bien recibidos Dios La Siembra, Alqa Roots (Trujillo) y Parque Rojo. Además en escena también, Madiba, Chira Roots (Piura), Roots Revival y Changofara.

Desde Venezuela viene Nou Vin Lakay que es una banda buenísima que ya comparte el escenario con Gondwana, Los Cafres, Stephen Marley, Fidel Nadal, Israel Vibration, Papashanty, Mad Profesor, Antidoping, Onice entre otros. He escuchado sus temas como Mamá, Natural y Destiny; todos me dajen un concepto muy bueno de esta banda.

Desde Argentina viene Éxodo Babylon con la clara presencia de los vientos metales en su música. Temás como El Arte, Mi Droga, Como Dormí y A Coco son su carta de presentación.

También desde Argentinta LC trae reggae hip hop y nos sorprende con temas como El Camino.

Además Vieja Skina, Gorra Negra, Los Vespa y Banda Republicana.

Además León Negro (Trujillo), Raggamafia y Bredda Bicho

Clan Urbano que ha participado en el Creamfiels 2007 y estará en el Chillout Fest 2008. Además realizarón el tema Solo Recuerda el Nombre para producción La Gran Sangre. Temas como Entiende tiene una carga de consciencia social profunda y con ¿Qué Dirán? ratificaron su calidad en el programa Jammin de PlusTV.

Rupee - Mas Hysteria

I recently received an email from a promoter for the New York City band, Soundside.  She included two MP3 tracks that I immediately listened to.  The two songs she sent me were "Loss For Words" and "Mind Over Maria".  The first thing that I noticed about the band, was their great ability to change sounds and speeds.  In their song "Mind Over Maria", this is especially noticeable.  Both songs feature great guitar parts, and the band makes themselves sound like a famous band, which is a great thing for being on an indie label.  While the song "Loss for Words" has a slightly harder driving guitar, the band shows it can also play softer with the song "Mind Of Maria", which has a reggae feel to it.  If you like rock and alternative indie, you should be very impressed with this band.  If you're interested in Soundside, click here for their site which includes links to their MySpace page, YouTube channel, and ways to stream their music to your computer.  They are also included on iTunes if you would like to download their albums.
