Anzitutto Chiara i soliti ma mai come in questo caso più che doverosi ringraziamenti per averci concesso questa intervista sopratutto perché è la prima per il nostro giovane magazine...quindi grazie di cuore!
1- Analista del genere seriale: sembra una materia universitaria (magari!) ci spieghi meglio questo termine o appellativo?
In realtà è nato tutto proprio così: ho iniziato a fare questo lavoro dopo aver lavorato qualche anno all’analisi del linguaggio cinematografico e televisivo, anche in Università. Subito dopo il diploma in Sceneggiatura presso la Civica Scuola di Cinema di Milano, ho lavorato in Mediaset ad un interessantissimo progetto di scrittura all’americana per la sit-com, ma sebbene fossi portata per i dialoghi ho scoperto che mi interessava molto di più l’analisi dei meccanismi della sit-com e della serie tv piuttosto che la scrittura delle sceneggiature… Così ho approfondito gli studi della Scuola di Cinema e dell’Università e ho cominciato a tenere corsi nelle scuole, dalle elementari all’Università, laboratori di scrittura, laboratori di analisi dei generi e del linguaggio televisivo… E ho scoperto di avere una grande passione per la ricerca, la critica, l’analisi. E per l’insegnamento, che mi manca moltissimo. Non potendo più tenere corsi a causa dei miei problemi a spostarmi, ho iniziato a scrivere di film e telefilm, specializzandomi gradualmente in serie tv e cercando di inserire in articoli semplici, rivolti a tutti e scritti con un linguaggio “comune” un po’ di strumenti critici e di consigli per apprezzare meglio le serie tv. Continuo a farlo ogni giorno, nella speranza che altri appassionati di telefilm, come me, possano trovare nuovi spunti di riflessione e nuovi stimoli.
2 - Scrivi libri, gestisci un tuo magazine on line (schermotv), collabori con il sito Foxtv e per la rivista Telefilm Magazine...oltre a questo, ammesso che ti avanzi del tempo fai altro?

No, in effetti direi che è abbastanza no?! Scherzi a parte, al momento mi sto dedicandoprincipalmente al mio lavoro per Foxtv, che è la mia occupazione principale, e nel tempo che rimane mi concentro sulle collaborazioni con altre testate o siti e sull’aggiornamento del mio sito, di cui proprio poco tempo fa ho preso “totalmente” il controllo: i contenuti sono esclusivamente miei… Spero di riuscire ad aggiornarlo frequentemente, ma se non ci riuscirò farò in modo di recuperare!

3 - Secondo te che direzione sta prendendo il genere seriale americano?
Un’ottima direzione, tanto per cominciare. Io ripeto da anni (e mi ripeto, nel segnalarlo!) che ormai il confine fra cinema e tv, che si è andato assottigliando per un lungo periodo, non esiste più. Le produzioni televisive statunitensi sono una vera e propria fabbrica non solo di successi, ma anche di capolavori. Se avete visto, Lost o The West Wing, tanto per citare due titoli a caso, sapete di cosa parlo.
Per quanto riguarda le “tendenze” attuali, direi che c’è il consueto ritorno “ciclico” verso i generi. Al momento, forse per via del successo di Lost, siamo molto orientati verso il mistero, il soprannaturale, la fantascienza (lo dimostrano tutti i “grossi titoli” della scorsa stagione, o di quella attuale: Fringe, Dollhouse, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles…). E c’è anche un forte interesse per il “nuovo” filone storico (rivisitato): i Tudor, John Adams, ed i prossimi progetto di HBO su Abraham Lincoln e John Wilkes Booth…. Al di là dei generi, comunque, la direzione che mi sembra chiara è quella di un sodalizio sempre più forte con il mondo del cinema: le grandi star di Hollywood che accettano di cimentarsi in una produzione televisiva sono sempre di più. Il che, sicuramente, porta ad un ulteriore aumento dei budget investiti dalle case di produzione e dai network, e ad un’attenzione ancora maggiore verso la qualità delle sceneggiature, della regia e di tutti gli aspetti tecnici.
4 - E secondo te quello italiano? Assistiamo ad un copia e incolla di quello americano?

Beh, magari fosse un copia e incolla. Sarebbe già qualcosa. Il problema è che qui cerchiamo di copiare… ma senza riuscirci. Tutte le ultime produzioni italiane sono brutte, bruttissime copie di grandi successi americani (con una predilezione per il genere medical, come avrete notato) che si sono concretizzate in prodotti non riusciti. Dialoghi inverosimili, recitazione esasperata, incapacità di dosare realtà, verosimiglianza e finzione… Dal punto di vista della “macchina produttiva” non siamo messi così male. Ma su sceneggiatura e recitazione non posso spendere una sola buona parola, sinceramente. L’unico prodotto italiano che abbia senso, in un panorama come questo, è Boris: una presa in giro della tv italiana che… non sa fare tv! E che dopo poche puntate, di fronte ad una fiction “vera”, ti fa esclamare: “Caspita, sembra una puntata de Gli occhi del cuore”…
5 - Che consigli ti senti di dare a chi come noi si affaccia a questo mondo telefilmico?...Può diventare una professione?

Scrivere di telefilm analizzandoli, recensendoli, trasformandoli in oggetto di studio oltre che di passione può sicuramente diventare una professione. Ma come tutte le professioni specializzate richiede un grande impegno: bisogna studiare (anche i telefilm, la tv ed il linguaggio televisivo hanno una storia: bisogna impararla e tenerla sempre presente, quando ci si accosta ad un prodotto). Bisogna esercitarsi (sembrerà una banalità, ma sapersi esprimere correttamente – e in un modo comprensibile a tutti – non è una questione secondaria, in questo lavoro). E poi bisogna soprattutto – e su questo insisto sempre, quando mi chiedono consigli per fare questo lavoro – guardare la tv. Non si scrive una riga su un prodotto che non si è visto: bisogna aver seguito almeno l’episodio pilota per presentare una nuova serie, e almeno 4 o 5 episodi per scrivere di una serie che invece è già disponibile da un po’ di tempo. Ne va sia della propria professionalità che della propria credibilità: provate ad immaginare cosa succederebbe se scriveste peste e corna di una serie, a scatola chiusa, per poi trovarsi di fronte ad un inatteso capolavoro… Perdereste ogni credibilità critica. Più si guardano le serie, più s’impara. Si colgono le citazioni, le parodie, i riferimenti. Purtroppo, nel nostro Paese non c’è una preparazione adeguata in questo senso. Spesso capita che “recensire” un prodotto diventi sinonimo di “raccontare la trama”, inserendo qualche curiosità sulla produzione. E nessun giudizio motivato, positivo o negativo che sia… Spesso perché capita che chi recensisce non ha mai seguito, e quindi non conosce, ciò di cui deve scrivere.
6 - Quali serie televisive ti piacciono e se puoi dirci i motivi?

Faccio prima a dirvi quali serie non mi piacciono. Davvero! Ci sono dozzine di telefilm per cui vado pazza. La mia passione per Buffy e Angel, che mi hanno conquistata con l’ironia e con il mix di generi credo che a questo punto non sia più un mistero… Ma ce ne sono molte, molte altre: Lost, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, X-Files, Scrubs, Sex & the city, Medium, The Shield, NCIS, Arrested Development, Will & Grace, Friends, I Soprano, Desperate Housewives, Dirt… Per quanto riguarda i motivi, per ciascuna serie ce n’è uno specifico. Ma in generale: ottime sceneggiature, interpretazioni verosimili (anche in scenari inverosimili!), citazionismo, diversi livelli di lettura. E “coraggio”: niente peli sulla lingua, bensì accurate esplorazioni dell’animo umano. Sono queste di solite le cose che mi attraggono di più in una serie.

7 - Hai in cantiere qualche altro libro sull'argomento? Se si ci puoi anticipare qualcosa? Ti preeeeeeeeego...;-)

Per il momento sto continuando a raccogliere perle di saggezza dai telefilm, per eventuali nuove edizioni del libro appena uscito. Ormai vivo armata di taccuino, non c’è modo di cogliermi impreparata! In futuro, per quanto riguarda altri progetti, ci penseremo…

8 - Secondo te la vita è un telefilm?

Beh, che domande… Sì! Certo che sì! Al di là del fatto che non esiste una serie che non abbia riprodotto in qualche modo, magari esasperandone gli aspetti surreali, comici o drammatici, la nostra vita (penso a The Office, Six Feet Under o Big Love, ad esempio), credo che ogni giorno rappresenti una nuova puntata di una lunga serie, che a seconda delle scelte e degli eventi per ciascuno di noi cambia genere. La mia vita è senza dubbio un medical drama, ad esempio. Ma conosco anche qualcuno che vive come se si trovasse in una sit-com (beati loro!), qualcuno che studia tutto e tutto come se fosse il protagonista di un detective drama e qualcuno d’altro che è indeciso sul livello di continuity da attribuire alla propria storia…
9 - C'è un aspetto o anche più di uno che proprio non ti piace dei telefilm in genere?

C’è un aspetto che mi dà un po’ fastidio, più che non piacermi, ma che non è proprio dei telefilm. È la loro trasmissione televisiva (italiana, s’intende) che mi innervosisce. Non sopporto i cambiamenti dell’ultimo minuto, le decisioni di trasmettere 6 episodi alla settimana in due serate, o la scelta di interrompere una nuova stagione dopo 4 episodi per poi riprenderla dopo 3 mesi… Per questo ho smesso di seguire le serie in tv, rinunciando anche a qualche prima visione delle mie serie preferite. Le seguo esclusivamente sui canali satellitari tematici, o in DVD.
10 - Secondo te, un magazine on line attualmente cosa deve o non deve avere per avere successo o meglio visibilità e credibilità?

Secondo me i requisiti fondamentali sono due: produrre contenuti propri, senza riportare notizie od articoli altrui, bensì producendone di originali per dare un’impronta decisa al magazine, e poi seguire una linea editoriale ben precisa. Che, possibilmente, abbia un taglio critico: la gente vuole sì essere aggiornata sulle nuove serie, i progetti degli attori e le curiosità sulle produzioni più in vista, ma – se si tratta di appassionati di telefilm – vuole soprattutto indicazioni sulle serie che magari ancora non conosce e che potrebbe apprezzare. Ho parecchi amici che mi hanno ringraziata dopo averli convinti a seguire delle serie a cui normalmente non avrebbero prestato attenzione…

11 - Chiara Poli cosa fa nel tempo libero?

Purtroppo la mia vita si è parecchio complicata negli ultimi anni… Non ne faccio mai mistero perché nel mio ambiente di lavoro la cosa è piuttosto nota, ma ho parecchi problemi di salute. Quindi non ho molta scelta: non riuscendo mai ad andare via, e avendo spesso difficoltà anche solo ad uscire di casa, devo “inventarmi” qualcos’altro per trascorrere le mie giornate. Così passo il tempo libero insieme a mio marito, gioco con il mio cane, ricevo visite da parte dei miei amici… Chiacchiero e guardo qualche film in compagnia: non riuscendo ad andare al cinema, mi sono dotata di videoproiettore. E anche la visione dei telefilm ne guadagna, parecchio!

...Trailer Park Boys, a simply brilliant comedy about a group of Nova Scotia trailer park residents. Outside of Canada, it seems that this show's quite a hit in Australia and a bunch of European countries, but it definitely doesn't get the credit it deserves for being so good.

Trailer Park Boys, in its understated humour and geniunely lovable characters, is far superior to the overrated Scrubs, Corner Gas and House of Payne (having to incessantly advertise this as "House of Payne: Very Funny" is as unnecessary, insincere, flat and downright ineffective as CNN's continual assurances of being "the most trusted news source"). Its funniness ranks really up there with other under-the-radar gems like the early Will & Grace seasons and Two and a Half Men. But don't trust me - watch for yourself.

]]> <![CDATA[What's Good On TV!]]> http://pandora19.wordpress.com/?p=244 Wed, 08 Oct 2008 13:29:03 +0000 Heather http://pandora19.pt.wordpress.com/2008/10/08/whats-good-on-tv/ For the first time in three years I've resubscribed to cable and have discovered exactly what it is I've been missing.  This fall is full of dramas, cheap and creative reality tv, and the joys of sitcoms, not to mention all sorts of new shows to explore.

In the drama category we've got old shows like Hous, Heroes, and Stargate Atlantis returning with newbie The Sarah Connor Chronicles making a very large splash in the Fall season opener pool.  New shows like Sci-Fi's Sanctuary and the return of Lost are also building a high anticipation for the rest of this tv year.

The Sitcoms are blowing up with The Office rocking again this year and the return of Scrubs Season 8 on ABC highly anticipated.

Reality TV good and bad has been overwhelming the tube.  Shows like Bravo's Top Design, Project Runway and the return of Top Chef leave much to be excited about.  Disovery's Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe just started another season, and no one ever tires of Mythbusters.  LA Ink, Criss Angel Mindfreak, and Dog The Bountry Hunter are still going strong, while Sci-Fi offers new series like Destination Truth and Spike TV's new season of The Ultimate Fighter.

Hopefully there will be a return of Dexter and other shows, but so far this year of TV watching is off to an excellent start.

I wear make up on an almost daily basis, but at the end of the night I seldom find the time or energy to wash it off. I get pimples, but those are few and far between and the most I deal with is a little bit of redness.

Do as I say, not as I do.

Skin care is the basis to having a glowing complexion. Eating well, getting proper exercise and being mindful of what you put on your face is always helpful. But it is important to always refresh your skin and keep flakiness at bay. And moisturizer can only do so much.

The fact is, make up residue is terrible for your pores. It can cause inflammation and on site redness that is a nightmare to cover up. So I always try to make it up to my face by giving it a good scrub every few days to battle away the evidence of my sin. However, going to the drug store can definitely get pricey. The most effective solution I've found is to use a sugar scrub, which can be made from ingredients you can find in Dutch Treats.

Simple Sugar Scrub:
1 Cup of Sugar (Granulated)
1/2 Cup of Extra Virgin Olive Oil
Optional: Scented oils such as peppermint or lavender

Steps:
1) Mix the sugar and olive oil in a small container, preferably unbreakable and with a lid so it can be reused.
2) Add  a teaspoon of any scents preferred (Personally, I prefer a to add a drop of lemon juice because my combo skin needs a little bit of citric acid). Don't be afraid to mix and match to find something you like. We aren't playing with gold, it's just oil and sugar.
3) Place a quarter size increment on the back of your hand. With a wet washcloth, apply in small circles in desired areas. Then rinse gently with a cool, freshly wet washcloth.

This scrub can be used warm or cold. So put it in your fridge if you would like to have a cool wake up in the morning, or warm it in your microwave (remember, only a few seconds should do, we're playing with oil) for a soothing spa experience before going to bed.

Gracias a la Paramount Comedy, acabo de descubrir una serie que ya lleva unas cuantas temporadas destacando en el panorama cómico visual.

Se trata de Colgados en Filadelfia y va de 4 jóvenes (3 tios y una chica) que regentan un bar sin mucho éxito y buscan sentido a sus vidas, a parte de hechar un polvo de vez en cuando.

Pues si quereis pasar un buen rato, os aconsejo verla.

I am so addicted to "Scrubs"... Watch like three episodes per day... But most of all I'm addicted to Dr. Cox. I think the reason for which he excites me so much is that we're somewhat alike. Wish we'd be more alike.

I'm currently watching season two and he just got back with his wife. I totally dislike that, because it brings out the puppy in him and that just shouldn't be shown. Wish he would've sticked with Heather Locklear's character, whatever her name was.

Whenever I see him I go like "Dr. Coxxxxxxxxxxxxxx..." Kept on thinking I've heard that voice before and that name saying and couldn't figure out where, until it hit me last night... "Mr. Sheffffffffffield!" :P That's right, Franny girl.

Today I really hope Dr. Cox will ditch his wife at some point soon, because this is starting to piss me off.

I do believe this is the best sit-com I've watched since the Seinfeld and Friends era. I'd say Sex and the city too, but that's not really the same genre.

Been most pissed off when, on one episode, they insisted Dr. Cox just wasn't a hero. I mean, hello...

"Nobody wants someone who’s even more scared than us. We want the hero. The one who’ll be there til the end and if he won’t rescue you then he’ll fight to death to try and do so."

"We’re most heroic when we’re not heroes." Yeah... That's what "Susan" aka dr. Dorian thinks... Get a life. :P You know you want the hero in him too...

So I'm going to stop this rant right here, before y'all start suggesting I'm like the ladies watching the soap operas, except this is a sit-com. Well I'm addicted, what can I bloody say? :P

]]> <![CDATA[What if I'm in a Coma?]]> http://angelajo1208.wordpress.com/?p=944 Sat, 04 Oct 2008 11:00:46 +0000 Vanity of Vanities! http://angelajo1208.pt.wordpress.com/2008/10/04/what-if-im-in-a-coma/ I've got to tell you something up front: I suffer from random thoughts and worries.  I've recently found out that I have a friend who suffers with the same malady.  While Lalena worries about dying from a spoon wound, I worry about comas.  While she looks for an escape route in case you try to murder her, I get concerned about saying the wrong thing.  Look to her blog for an explanation of her oddities and look below for an explanation of mine.  Well, it's more of an elaboration than an explanation, because I don't know why.  I just know details.

Let's talk comas.  Comas happen all the time.  People on tv and in newspapers wake up from 30-year comas to find that their entire worlds have changed.  Their spouses are remarried; their 7-year-olds have children.  This is terrifying.  I have always worried about being in a coma.  While it's probably very restful, it can be a disaster when you wake up!  (Ugh - and talk about medical bills!)  I had a whole new concern a couple of days ago, however.

We had just gone to bed and my mind was wandering as it often does before sleep.  I got hooked on the coma thing and terror seized my heart.  I knew I wouldn't be able to sleep if I didn't get the answer, so I whispered to Justin, "Are you still awake?"  I heard a grunt and that was enough for me; I blurted out, "What if you're in a coma?!  Does someone brush your teeth?!"  He assured me that someone does.  That calmed me enough to let me go to sleep.  I still have unanswered questions, though.  Are they really faithful about it, or do they just think it doesn't matter much because the patient probably won't wake up?  And how do they do it without the patient choking on the foamy toothpaste water?  I mean... imagine brushing someone's teeth while they're asleep!  How do you rinse?  I'm still worried.  I take extra good care of my teeth now and I certainly don't want some bitter nurse causing major dental problems for me.  I'll have enough to deal with when I wake up.

Okay, it's hard to recover from where that random thought went, but I have another one.  Last night, Justin and I got on the subject of people who have lesions in their brains which cause speech problems.  Specifically, some people can only say one word over and over again.  Watch this clip for an illustration:

Hilarious, right?  WELL NOT IF YOU'RE THE PATIENT!  Justin said he had a patient once who could only say, "Yes."  Imagine the situations you could get yourself into!  Go ahead.  I'll give you a minute. 

You now have a taste of what it's like to walk around in my head for a minute.  This is terrifying.

Oh yeah... always make sure you shave, too.  You never know when you might die or be seriously injured.  You don't want to give some nurse or resident reason to make fun of your hairy armpits.  Not that they do... no.  Health professionals never mock patients...

Descarga completamente la temporada N° 7 de Scrubs y, en una maratón sin pausas, comienza a ver capítulo tras capítulo hasta llegar al maldito capítulo final (el que vio a altas horas de la madrugada)

Como está con gripe, comienza a identificarse con todas y cada una de las historias losers del personaje principal JD. Luego, le viene una crisis existencial porque se da cuenta que lleva exactamente 7 años viendo esta serie, y que no tiene una chica como Elliot a su lado. Cosas de la fiebre.

Scrubs termina, pero la gripe continua.

Recently however I did stumble across one that really stuck with me. That movie was the 1997 made-for-tv thriller Intensity starring John C. McGinley and Molly Parker. Based in the book by Dean Koontz, Intensity lives up to it's name in every way.

John C. McGinley is perhaps best known today for his portrayal of Dr. Perry Cox on the NBC (and later, ABC) sitcom, Scrubs.  In Intensity, McGinley plays a sociopathic killer by name of Edgler Foreman Vess - and his portrayal of this character is both chilling and brilliant. All the youtube clips I could find for the movie had the embedding feature disabled, but here's a link you can follow to watch an 8 min. 36 sec. scene from Intensity.

I won't spoil the movie for you with an in-depth review (well, actually that's my way of saying I'm lazy, and don't want to write that much). But if you find yourself surfing the channel guide on TV and happen to see Intensity listed, it's well worth watching and/or recording on your DVR.

Staffel bis jetzt!
