Yellow Fever Vaccinations in Panama
We recently had a friend from Canada visiting who is on her way to Thailand later this year. She learned in Panama that if she traveled here she needs a Yellow Fever shot to enter Thailand because Yellow Fever can sometimes be found in Panama in the far outlying areas. (I personally do not know of anyone who has contracted it) There are quite a number of countries (check this website for the list: http://www.who.int/ith/countries/2008_country_list.pdf) with the same requirement as Thailand. Once you get the vaccination it is good for 10 years, and when traveling to any countries which require that you have the shots you must carry your vaccination booklet.

Yellow fever is a mosquito born virus, carried by the Aedes and Haemagogus species of mosquito which is prevalent during daylight hours. It is recommended that you protect yourself with a vaccination and using mosquito lotion regularly. In the cities and towns there are regular inspections by the Department of Health for mosquito breeding areas, also they spray quite often especially during rainy season.

World Health Organization recommends: Yellow fever vaccination recommended for all travelers who are going to the Province of Darien, the region Kuna Yala (old San Blas), East Panama including the districts of Chep, Chiman and Balboa. This does not include the City of Panama and the Panama Canal area (old Canal Zone).

We were investigating vaccinations and which are possible to get in Panama. The nurses told us that the Department of Health offers FREE Yellow Fever shots for everyone. That´s right FREE. That includes Panamanians, foreign residents, and visitors. You do have to pay $5 for your registration of the shot and your vaccination booklet.

My friend and I both were both inoculated. I was impressed with the speed of service (there were no other patients there), cleanliness, and the nurses were helpful, knowledgeable and kind. The health facility itself was a basic tropical clinic but it was clean and organized.

I should add this is not a new program but has been offered for some time now and I just did not have the time to get out to the clinic.

I am a sucker for punishment, so I am now on a quest to find the other Panamanian clinics which offer inoculations as well. The nurse told us that the Department of Health Public Clinics throughout Panama offer vaccinations which are on their regular schedule of recommended childhood and adult shots such as hepatitis, tetanus, etc... for no charge or very limited charges. They also will have the flu vaccine at certain times of year. That will be our next mission, to find the clinics, schedules and prices...

Yellow Fever Vaccinations are available at the Department of Health (Salud) Clinic in Clayton, the street just before the Crossroads Church on the way to Miraflores Locks. The clinic is open 7:30 am until noon Monday Thru Saturday.

The training that I have been conducting at work is over. So I applied for a day and a half leave to visit my family in Ilocos. I will be having that trip tonight after work. My last visit was four months ago. I think much has changed. My auntie kept raving how my cousins miss me. Haha, yeah I miss them too. I haven't shopped for anything to bring home yet. Maybe I won't, I will just buy some pizza at some fastfood there. I have more than enough to carry already.

So I won't be around for at least three days. I hope to bring back some good photos during my vacation. I haven't been posting any photos for the last months so I hope I will have some when I come back.

This virus can be prevented by getting your dog three [3] different vaccinations when he is between 6 and 16 weeks of age, and ensure that he has a regular annual booster shot.

The symptoms from this virus include fever, cough, diarrhea, and vomiting.
If your shows any of these symptoms, you should immediately take him to see the vet.

So I had to post two blogs today --- since I had one that was me venting and irritated... this is the happy blog.

This is the happy blog about the dance party that we had for me and Joseph's birthday with MUST.NOT.DIE ... and two other sacramento DJs, Diamondmonsterrr and Nick Avey

The party was absolutely crazy. I couldn't have imagined the amount of people that showed up. It was one of those things where a few people came by, we had over 300 jello shots... and just got it started right away - with the music crackin, people dancing and James & Colin passing out the jello shots:

Then as people showed up ... the dancing started...

and then more and more and more people showed up...

and it just was crrraaazzyyyy

aaannnnddd heres meee

sooo the partying went on and on.

Not only did the partying continue on and on...my friend picked me up on his shoulders and carried me around the party giving high fives and dancing. It was SUCH a blast. :) I felt like such a huge celebrity. It was so incredible. Hopefully this party will really help kick off our next dance event that we put on.
Anyway, it was the best birthday that I have ever had -- and we wound up having over 200 people and the streets were filled with people just drinking and hanging out and dancing and cheering and it was greeeaaatttt.
And the best part about the whole thing is that I MANAGED TO BE SOBER!!! which was amazing because I remembered everything and I got to dance all night and not have to worry about myself acting all weird or drunk or doing dumb shit. :) Yes for having a great sober birthday!

everyone in our family Knew that yellow ( anything yellow) pleased grandma....she wore yellow clothing, had a yellow cat, her curtians in the kitchen, her favorite coffee cup.. everything, every gift she receieved on mothes day , her B. day or Christmas.. was something yellow .
as a child before they got siding on the house in the 70's) i remember her house was yellow every other year that i grew up, ( the other year it was pink)...it was alwys a battle with them what color the house should be..grandma loved yellow and grandpa was starting up a live bait store in town and he always believed the best adverisment was by word of mouth..no adds in the papers for him...and having the only pink house in town ( back in 50's & 60's) made it easier to find the place that sold bait..and his business ( the tiny pink building behind that little pink house ) did very well... I understood his logic. made sence to me..and it was a mellow light pink..pretty really...i have pictures of the house in pink...it's over 50 years old..where does the time go???
but today. i came across a bouquet of yellow roses...and paused to remember grandma & her little yelow house that she built with grandpa themselves back in 1950.., the little house i was born in and she died in...when she died yellow flowers surrounded her.

22:35 - Michi: Nici, Männer wissen wo man Männer angreifen muss.

Want to see me hyperventilate? Just show me a needle that is designed to pierce human skin, then sit back and enjoy the show. This must have something to do with the inordinate number of shots I received as a child. We lived out of the country off and on, and I have vivid memories of being pulled down the hospital hallways, screaming and writhing in anticipation of the dreaded needles. Just mention the possibility of a shot, even now, and my eyes involuntarily well up with tears. I'm 40 years old, people! I should be over this already, right?

Here's a lovely piece of irony for you. My son, Lucas, has just been diagnosed with a peanut allergy. The diagnosis followed a very scary dash to the emergency room after he shared a bite of a peanut trail mix bar with someone – I won't mention names – who is not me, but who is also Lucas' parent. I know, I know… it could have just as easily been me.

So, here's where the irony kicks in. I now have to carry an Epi-pen at all times. For those of you don't know about such things, this is basically a shot I have to administer to keep my child from dying, should he ingest a bit of peanut. I spent the entire morning today squirming while the the allergist explained how and when to use it. The needle is housed inside a little cartridge, and it pops out when you hit the black end against the skin.

Here's a little picture. Look closely and you'll see the diagram of the person jabbing their thigh with a needle!

Then we had to go see the nurse, who had us practice on ourselves with a needle-free cartridge. As I sat there squirming, with tears falling down my cheeks as quickly as I could wipe them, the nurse looked at me blankly and said, "You're not good with needles, are you?" She added that the needle is pretty thick, like a sewing needle, and it's long, too! Heartless woman. And if I have to use it, God forbid, then in addition to jabbing my poor little child with a long, thick needle, I have to hold it there for ten seconds and then pull the whole, long thing out. No, it doesn't retract on its own.

I know I should be thankful that we found out now, and that we have the ability to treat him instantly should we have an emergency. And perhaps this is one way for me to finally get over my insane shot phobia, and I could, theoretically, be thankful for that, too. But it's going to take me some time.

I'm not talking about the Patron variety of tequila shots but instead the mini-book "Tequila Shots" by word-of-mouth and brand identity agency Brains on Fire. I came across these guys thanks to John Moore's "Three Reads" over at Brand Autopsy. Since it was a lazy Sunday, I spent the morning taking Tequila Shots to see what the style of this agency was all about. Here is what caught my eye from the quick read:

This book is a stellar way to show the company culture...both to potential clients and to new employees. You instantly get a feeling for the pulse of the place. I love the line "if your work is your calling and not just a job, you will embrace it in everything you do."

I love their concept of Marketer-in-Residency. It's a way for the agency to give their clients access to some of the "smartest thinkers and doers in marketing." This is a brilliant way to bring fresh blood into the agency on a short term, while giving individual marketing practioners access to the overall structure of an agency. A similiar structure has worked for years with Venture Capitalists and their "Entreprenuers-in-Residency" programs so why not agencies as well. Very cool idea that I think a lot of agencies (and even companies) could learn from. I could see myself really enjoying something like this...

"The growth & development of people is the higest calling of leadership." More people need to think this way. If people around you succeed and grow, you will be successful as well.

Courageously Honest - I love this insight. Some people call it being blunt....courageously honest is another way to put it. There really shouldn't be any gray zone in work. Ideas are either good or bad. Marketing either works or it doesn't. More people need the courage to be honest...it is pretty refreshing when they are.

"If it ain't fun, we must be doing it wrong." First, I love the picture of the bulldog that goes along with this quote. But I love the idea even more. More people need to have fun with work. I am a huge believer of work hard, play hard, have fun. As a Brand Manager, this is the type of relationship you need with your agency. Unfortunately not enough people act this way. Judging by the number of drinks in this mini-book, I think these guys know the definition of fun.

Take a tequila shot for yourself by downloading the book here. Great, quick read if you have the chance. This agency is one I'm going to be keeping my eye.

P.S. - If someone from Brains on Fire happens to read this post, you made the classic mistake of misspelling Procter as Proctor in John Moore's biography on your site :) Might want to change that. Just practicing courageous honesty and all to point it out.

I tend to fall into the category of people who would rather see a screenshot before they download a mod. Sure it's fun to discover things for the first time in-game, but you've got to go through a lot to get to that point. Personally it just doesn't make sense to download, clean, install, recreate merged lists, update save files, then try to go find whatever it is the mod added...only to discover that it's not what you hoped for in the first place. Maybe you feel the same way? If so this folder was made for you.

The main purpose of this collection is to highlight the mods featured in Fessic's Mod List, which you can also find in the Morrowind Stuff folder to the right. Believe me, it just wouldn't be practical to try and do screenshots for every Morrowind Mod - I'd never get to play the game! Even so, there's a good chance you'll find something here you probably haven't seen before.

You'll notice right away that everything is arranged alphabetically, but if you don't feel like clicking through the pages simply run the name in the search bar just under the calendar over there. I can almost guarantee the screenshot you're looking for will appear right away. Note that some of the screenshots you'll find here were originally taken by the mod creator.

Let me emphasize that the real credit for what you see here belongs to Bethesda, all the Modders and Artists out there whose talent and dedication have given us all an open-ended fantasy world to explore & enjoy for a long time to come.

That water you see on the screen is actually on the inside. If you need to take a break and cry, I'll wait.

I was very excited to finally go to a pool on the 4th of July with all my gear. I packed my all-plastic clip for Lucy so I could wear her underwater. I had to leave Charlie at the table, but it would only be for 1/2 hour or so. I swam, I played, I had fun. I got out of the pool and Lucy was VERY unhappy.

There was water all inside the screen, she said there was blockage detected, she was beeping like there was no tomorrow. I thought I had done everything right. What I didn't see before I jumped in the pool was that little tiny crack above the o in Cozmo.

I disconnected and called Smiths Medical. They're shipping me a new pump, but since it was Friday (and a holiday), the soonest I would get my replacement is Monday. *sigh*

Luckily, I still have Charlie to keep an eye on my blood sugar. The data I get from her is almost more valuable than the freedom I get from the pump. I know given the choice, some people will choose their CGMS over the pump.

I didn't have any Lantus on me since I was out and about. But I did have a syringe and a vial of Humalog. GiR and I quickly ran to Walgreens before the pharmacy closed and grabbed another box of syringes (because reusing syringes hurts). I managed doing "basal" injections every 2 hours until I got home. Doing 1.5 units in a syringe is HARD, let me tell you. But, with Charlie, my numbers looked great all evening.

I took my first shot of Lantus in over a year last night. I went with a straight conversion of what I usually take as basal in Humalog. As in, my Humalog basal comes to about 15 units, so that's what I took of Lantus. It might not be enough, but better to run a touch high than low.

I've still got some Humalog pens, so I'm using that for meals and corrections. So far, it's been manageable, but I miss the granularity (.35 units? not with a pen or a syringe!) and the IOB. But, it's only for a few days. Then on Monday, I will get to meet Lucy 3.0.

Okay so I know I said there wouldn't be a lot of posts this weekend, but as it turns out, something's come up. Something very important. Kelsey just showed me a video of herself that somehow I've never seen, and I think it deserves to be shared with the world. The setting is Prague, and the videographers are two British strangers that Kelsey and Sarah met (please note their brilliant commentary). The British strangers have encouraged the girls to take shots of absinthe without using their hands. Enjoy:

My favorite part is that Sarah initially just ignores Kelsey's pain and finishes her shot. That's friendship right there.

This is what Three Olives Vodka has to say about one of their three newest infused vodkas just released in June 2007. Being the pure coffee drinker that I am (no cream, no sugar, give me the strongest you have please), I could hardly wait to get my hands on a bottle the Three Olives Triple Shot Espresso. Until now Van Gogh’s Double Espresso Double Caffeine Vodka has been the ruling dark coffee vodka on the market. Since both brands have flavor infusions that appeal to me, I thought it would be interesting to see how they compared.

I must confess here and now, chocolate does not rank high on my list of desirable indulgences. In a side by side tasting between Three Olives Triple Shot Espresso and Van Gogh Double Espresso Double Caffeine, the difference is easy to pick out right away. Three Olives Triple Shot Espresso has a richer, deeper color than the Van Gogh. In regard to taste, the variation is in the chocolate.

Three Olives Triple Shot Espresso’s chocolate base definitely brings out a pronounced sharper edge to the espresso flavor. It is robust and full of body. The crisp, clean vodka feel of Three Olives is carried throughout. Underneath is that slight bite of chocolate. In a straight up tasting, the chocolate edges were not rounded off enough for my palate. It was not smooth enough. Van Gogh has a caramel undercurrent leaving a bit of creamy smooth feel in the follow through.

However, my tasting did not stop there. Three Olives introduced four new recipes with the Triple Shot Espresso. Once I moved along to these cocktails, what mattered most was whether the espresso flavor remained the primary feature and how the flavor held up after mingling with other spirits.

Again with a confession; I typically do not recommend shots or shooters as expressed in a much earlier post. However, the Money Shot is an astonishing surprise. This is not a “throw back to get wasted” shooter. It would be possible to increase the ratios slightly and make this into a cocktail. The Money Shot is slightly nutty with definite espresso shine through. The half and half adds froth, but does not make this a creamy shooter. It is just the right amount of sweetness. While this is a shaken over ice and then strained drink, I could definitely imagine this as a warmed drink. Possibly it is the nature of the espresso flavor which is associated of course with hot coffee.

The Triple Decadence had me a teeny bit worried with the addition of dark chocolate liqueur. What I noticed first off was the scent of orange zest on the rim. Divine. With my first sip; the coffee flavor was intense. The balance of Triple Shot Espresso to the two liqueurs was perfect; not too sweet or over the top. While there is no half and half added, there is still a creamy texture to this cocktail. It is also my guess that if you had another favorite liqueur besides orange, it could most likely be substituted. Possibly cassis or blackberry would be nice additions instead.

The Triple Espresso Martini faltered. First of all I found this one to be sickly sweet. Possibly if there were some half and half to cut some of the sugar it would be fine, but not as is. Secondly, this cocktail was entirely too gooey to want to put my lips on the rim of the glass. To be fair the rim of the glass is dipped in chocolate and I have already confessed my aversion to chocolate. But honestly whether I am a lover of chocolate, caramel (which I do like) or raspberry syrup, these are all things I do not want slicked across my lips or dripping from them while I am attempting to take a sip from a cocktail at a bar with girlfriends or in front of a date. Dipping a cocktail glass in chocolate syrup looks beautiful, but it is not the wisest choice for a cocktail rimmer. Lace the inside of the glass instead for a beautiful effect.

Of course there was one more chocolate martini; the White Mochatini. This one has three espresso beans as garnish on the top. These are imperative to the cocktail as their aroma is the first thing that hits you as you go in for a taste. The white chocolate is of course smooth and creamy, but it almost overwhelms the espresso flavor. The espresso is there, but does not shine through as much as I feel it should in a Triple Shot Espresso cocktail. This cocktail is also very sweet as one could guess with an entire ounce of white chocolate liqueur in it.

I could not let an espresso vodka tasting slip away without trying it in one of my favorite drinks; the White Russian. The Triple Shot Espresso Vodka holds up rather nicely and deepens the espresso flavor bringing added richness to this mixed drink as would be expected.

All in all I am rather pleased with the Triple Shot Espresso Vodka. This is a wonderful addition to the liquor cabinet. What will be truly exciting is experimenting with new recipes and imagining the possibilities. Liquor is no longer just for cocktails and mixed drinks. What about ice cream, hot chocolate or enriching the flavor of coffee at weekend brunch? The options are endless.

Welcome to a new feature here on WDW Central called PhotoMagic! [I realize it's a lousy name - if you can come up with something better, I'm all for it!] Here's how it works. Occasionally I'll be going on Flickr to look for great shots at Walt Disney World. It could be a park icon, a ride, a shop, fireworks, or anything. I'm picking the photos that look great. That's the point. And I won't be claiming to own any of the photos, because I'll link back to the photo on Flickr and the poster's profile. You can look forward to the first post tomorrow. Thanks for visiting WDW Central!

--------------

now that the exams are over, at least until the next ones arrive, im refusing to accept the fact that they are to be followed by a full school term. after all, everyone knows that tests are followed by at least a week of holidays. then again, things are different now. this passage of rites is a very difficult one.

--------------

we all need motivation. but sometimes we dont want it. sometimes we just dont want to care. pretend the problem doesnt exist, and maybe itll forget about you and go bug someone else. eventually. maybe. or not.

i just want to sit in a corner by myself and do absolutely nothing. well maybe other than watching anime or tv shows that are fantastically unrealistic. i <3 escapism.

---------------

on a lighter note. get smart is an extremely funny show. especially when youre watching it with zhang. go watch it sometime if you want to laugh.
