Whenever I carry one of these bags, half of the time I have people come to me and comment: "Wow, that is a cool bag." If it is a woman, the next question, of course, is "Where did you get that?"

For a while, I appreciate the talent of the designer. Now he has moved me deeply.

According to Simone's blog, the designer joined "This One’s For The Children of Sichuan" Charity Auction, an international effort to raise money for the children in Sichuan who suffered from the disastrous earthquake in this May.  

The image shown on the left is a sample copy of the painting created by Simone for the auction.

The girl appearing on the left-center of the painting -- one of the comic characters in Tokidoki artwork -- wears her hairdo in a traditional (ancient) Chinese style, with deep sorrow on her iconic face. To sharpen the contrast, Smone added in the background the bright cherry blossoms, making you wonder just how fragile a life can be, and how bright a life can achieve.

In the painting the girl gently held a baby panda, whose illustration is less detailed. However, through just this rather sketchy and pale image you can still sense deep down the fear and despair that any human heart is unable to bear. The creative designer, again using a simple set of sketches, brought out a comic but innocent face that under normal circumstances, would have brought you with smiles, instead of tears.

Simone also made some cute flash videos. The first one is when the label was still working with the LeSportsac.

The second one "'Til Death Do Us Part" is more recent, probably for the upcoming Halloween:

Good Morning my style-oriented readers !

Once Again, I do apologize for keeping this blog up to no date at all these past weeks and I thank you all for your wonderful patience. Nevertheless, Vanitymirror is once again up and running with your number 1 illegal stylist. It is time to recap a little of the forever-changing events of fashion.

1. Fashion Week in Paris for Spring 2009 is over and is certainly a great core for artistic style inspiration. (I'll get back to you on that).
2. Dita Von Teese to make her own line of lingerie (how very surprising...)
3. Victoria "Posh" Beckham is running around with obscene and not to mention hideous shoes, trying to, once again, start a new fashion trend by wearing Universe High Heeled shoes...without Heels! ( We love your hair but please don't think you can make us run around thinking Deer-season is "in").
4. Key word for this autumn season: MYSTERIOUS. (I'll get back to you on that too.)
5. Lindsay Lohan to be front figure for Fornarinas upcoming fashion campaign, apparently because she is, and I quote: "Talented, goal-oriented and a "bad girl". "
   
6. Well, I don't really know if this is news...But Paris Hilton is launching her own clothing line. Guess what color the clothes are? Yeah...pink...
7. Last but certainly not least for this fashion update: Soon you'll be able to shop bags and accessories from the hard-to-get collection TokiDoki For LeSportSac on this very blog! Handpicked by yours truly, and of course I made sure my readers get the best price for it too! In other words, You can just forget the skyhigh prices of the TokiDoki For LesportSac collections on Ebay.

Phew, Paris fashion week, and what a week it had been, models fainting because the corsettes where too tight, designers expressing their political views on the runway...Anyway, a very reappearing trend from many designers where short skirts with long trails, really long trails. Hats and headbands all over the place and really high heels. Very colorful and flowery as usual during spring fashion, but I liked that there was a significant amount of subtle colours such as beige and brown. Since there is a political campaign still going strong in the US, many seem to have favoured the Business-chic look, which I just can't get enough of by the way. Favorite runway shows where Chanel and UNGARO. Simply gorgeous!

as you can see, we have so much BRIGHT and COLORFUL stuff in here it makes it hard for us to come to grips that outside it is a tad dreary.

i recommend that if you're not really feelin' this weather, to stop in and say hello and get a little dose of happiness. it will be well worth it.

Random #2: Why would anyone ever shoot interlaced footage? My very wonderful, super slick, super cool Canon HF100 can shoot 24p, 30p and 60i but I find absolutely no reason to shoot in 60i. If I need to catch something moving quickly, I'll just increase shutter and shoot progressive. I did a comparison on my computer and the 60 fields does not make any difference. In fact, all it does is create an extra step for me during post because I have to deinterlace. When will 60p be out???

Random #3: Speaking of shooting footage...the Phantom v12 shoots at 1000fps. That's like watching a 5 minute video of a person yawning. That puts the RED camera, aka my dream camera, to shame.

Random #4: I've been playing around with a new version of my Burton snowboarding piece (see the 'work in progress' below). Winter can't come soon enough. :/

Neat little toy from tokidoki that I picked up last weekend. Each Pup comes in a mystery box, so you will not know which Pup you'll get until you open the box. Cute as a button and only 1 inch tall.

I have a huge crush on Hello Kitty and have been completely taken over by Sanrio's ingenious marketing.  I buy anything and everything Hello Kitty.  Why do I?? Because (A) I can lol.. (ihaveashoppingproblem) and (B) Hello Kitty makes me happy (turnthatfrownupsidedown). 

  I don't know about you but I personally have always wanted a waffle maker?! in the shape of a friendly cat! And who wouldn't want a toaster of the same genre.

 I couldn't tell you if my life depended on it what exactly she does, does she have a TV show? or does she just lend her face to random products in a variety of categories.  I didn't bother researching to find out for this blog entry because to be perfectly honest, I don't care what she does.  She serves her purpose in my life and I thought I would share with you some random (everythingyoudon'tneed) items that have been blessed with Miss Hello Kitty herself.

She even has her foot in the door on the fashion industry.   I'm not sure how much jewelry I could wear with her face on it though.  I barely look 18 on a good day lol.

 So yea, hope she makes you happy like she did me.

Diesmal geht es um niedliche Plüschtierchen und Vinyl-Figuren der Trendmarke Tokidoki. Ich hab sie gesehen und mich sofort in sie verliebt, wirklich was schönes zum Sammeln wenn man wie ich auf niedlichen Katzenkitsch und Japan steht!

In Zusammenarbeit mit Hello Kitty hat Simone Legno auch eine Hello Kitty Figur in der Cactus Friends Serie entworfen. Wirklich süß das kleine Ding. Aber seht doch einfach selbst, ich habe versucht viele hübsche Bildchen aufzutreiben. Bekommen könnt ihr die kleinen niedlichen Figuren bei eBay. Bei der Hello Kitty Figur wird es schon schwieriger... die gibt es nur bei eBay USA für sehr hohe Preise.

Ich werde mir erstmal so ein kleines niedliches Figurchen ersteigern, da es super in mein Zimmer passt ^__^

Sketch every day, jot down ideas, I came up with a few today for t-shirts that I'll share with you later when the final drafts are done. Yet something entirely unexpected occurred in my inbox today which changed my day's direction from a run of the mill day of study into something inspiring: I got an email back from Simone Legno, the tokidoki designer:

hope you are doing well. thanks for your eamila nd sorry if I will be pretty quick since I am in san diego for tradeshows and trying to clean my ton of emails that accumulated during those days.

I think there's not many secrets or tips to be a graphic designer. it's  a matter of dedicating your lifre to it. it's not a jobm, it' sthe way you have to think watching things. even when I wake up I try to focus on new ideas or all the boring heavy things of the business, behind every simple object can be a great idea. i always used to work from morniog to night and even during weekends. outthere there's so much compewtitiojn that you have to really be one of the bests to get far. it's important to be humble cause you never stop learing asnd getting into a style perfection and evolvement.

Wish you good luck with your studies and lot of energy whn at the b eginning things will go pretty hard or wrong (happened to me a lot...it's normal)

There is this new wave of Japanese anime culture that is sweeping across the world. It is not hard these days to see t-shirts, bags and accessories in the design of Hello Kitty and other anime-inspired characters. They are uber cute especially those in red and pink colours. One of our favourite Japanese culture label is tokidoki and they have this series of watches which are perfect for a picnic or a day at the beach. "Tokidoki" means "sometimes" in Japanese.  But apparently, the team at Tokidoki translate this into, "as many times as possible."  They don't know how to quit! It's all about the collaborations now-a-days.  And when you think collabo's, Tokidoki's gotta be at the top of the list.  Feast your eyes on the newest collaboration by Tokidoki.Tokidoki has teamed up with a hefty number of companies since its discovery in 2003 and its birth in 2005.  Italian artist Simone Legno has been at a non-stop rampage, collaborating with companies such as; LeSportsac, Toy2r, iSkin, kidrobot, New Era, Dark Horse Comics, Fornarina, Smashbox, Hello Kitty, and Onitsuka Tiger, just to name a few!  And all at a limited run.

Since the original print, tokidoki's been nothing but an inspiration to me.  The strong lines and the distinctive characters pop out and catch my attention every time.  What gets me the most is the art is inspired by Japan.  The artist, Simone Legno, is a seasoned veteran in illustration but the images you see are inspirational interpretations of Japan.  In other words, Tokidoki is Japan seen through the eyes of Simone Legno.

Now we; the artists, designers, collectors, and collaborators, from the world of limited edition everything,now welcome...Ride Snowboards.
