Je bent een fetisjist of je bent er geen; de Samsung Omnia had dus redelijk snel mijn interesse gewekt. De eerste iPhone killer was (blijkbaar) opgestaan. Er zijn een paar vitale specificaties die van de Omnia een waardige vervanger zou kunnen maken: 3G, 5 megapixel cam, radio, built-in GPS, DivX codec, MMS, MP3 ringtones, … Je zou voor minder gaan twijfelen, maar ik ben principieel tegen WIN Mobile. Je ziet ook onmiddellijk dat het touchscreen traag reageert en dat surfen niet echt smooth gaat.

Dit kan nooit op tegen het OS van de iPhone die je zo vlotjes laat internetten. Daar zit’m dus het verschil tussen de twee phones.

Dit gezegd zijnde. Wanneer je gsm types Youtubet, krijg je dikwijls unboxing videos in de results. Op de eerste plaats voor de Omnia staat een opmerkelijke viral. Nice one.

Enligt den nya tekniken skall man kunna se ifall en abbonent är tillgänglig via t ex: chatt, telefoni, video, multimedia eller e-post.

Efter att ha läst artikeln kan jag inte sluta ställa mig själv frågan: "Kommer MSN Messenger finnas kvar i den form som den finns idag?" Behövs verkligen MSN om man har en inbyggd teknik i samtliga mobiltelefoner, oavsett plattform. Dvs, den här tekniken, som jag förstår det, skall funka med Windows Mobile, Symbian, Android, Linux, och andra Kalle Anka plattformar.

Om detta blir en global standard, kan jag då chatta med mina vänner i USA utan att betala någon extra taxa? Om fallet är sådant, så kan vi ju i princip kasta ut alla tredje parts (inkl MSN, som inte är en 3e part) och enbart använda detta! Standardisering är framtiden, länge leve standarden!

Vad tror ni läsare, kommer MSN, IM Messenger, Yahoo och andra klienter att överleva detta?

Muitos profissionais ( mais do que possamos imaginar) não fazem idéia para que exatamente serve uma agenda. Nos dias atuais isto pode ser bastante preocupante, principalmente quando falamos de profissionais que precisam se organizar se quiserem obter a produtividade necessária para alcançar algum sucesso em suas atividades.

Existem aqueles indivíduos que utilizam a sua " agenda " apenas como calendário, outros mais avançados, como um lugar para marcar compromissos (médico, datas de aniversários, reuniões,etc) , fazer anotações aleatórias ou ainda guardar uma infinidade de papéis e post- its. Quando precisam encontrar alguma coisa ali é quase como uma aventura.

Na verdade, uma agenda pode, e deve, ser muito mais que isso:

- uma ferramenta de gerenciamento do nosso tempo

- um planejador para nossas atividades (pode controlar tarefas, projetos, etc)

- um mapa para nos manter no rumo

- uma memória externa (ajuda a manter nossa mente mais tranquila)

- uma ferramenta de organização pessoal

Evolução das agendas para ferramentas de gerenciamento do tempo

Até os anos 70, as pessoas tinham à sua disposição uma agenda de mesa, um fichário para telefones e um mural para lista de tarefas. A partir dos anos 80 surgiram os planejadores de papel, que uniam num só local, informações de calendário, contatos e ações. Em seguida eles se tornaram customizáveis, aumentando as opções para sua utilização. Já em meados dos anos 90 começaram a surgir os planejadores eletrônicos, pequenos, portáteis e de fácil uso. Considerações finais

Posso dizer que tenho bastante experiência no assunto agendas e planejadores, tendo inclusive desenvolvido um próprio, que implantei na rotina de meus colaboradores há alguns anos atrás, com muito sucesso. Já utilizei todo tipo de agenda e ferramentas de gerenciamento de tempo, papel ou

eletrônico. Atualmente utilizo um SmartPhone HTC Touch Diamond em conjunto com o MS Outlook em meu notebook.

Para mim não há dúvidas que esta combinação é a melhor alternativa para uma maior organização pessoal e profissional.

Em nossos seminários e treinamentos sobre organização no trabalho e na vida pessoal, sempre enfatizamos a extrema importância de ter uma agenda ou planejador que funcione, e mostramos em detalhes como utilizar esta ferramenta da forma correta.

The complication is that I am a little bit off the beaten track, so to say. I live in the Netherlands, but I usually work using English, and I have text (addresses, data) on my smart phone in Hungarian. This also means using characters specific to this language (ie, ű, ő). Ie, I need a system in English, but with the possibility to, somehow, type in those characters, too. I have lists of all my books, CD-s, etc, that I have been maintaining for many years and I’d like to have around on my smart phone. I would not think this is too much to ask…

Of course, following the hype, I looked at the iPhone. Although I must admit I do not really sympathize with the business approach taken by Apple for iPhones and its applications, I thought I would have a look nevertheless. But… Apple doesn’t speak Hungarian. Neither does it speak Czech, Croatian, and other Central European languages for that matter, except for Polish. This means that there is no way one can type in those characters (and I am not sure it could display them all right). With all the hype around the user friendliness of Apple I was shocked to see them forgetting about cca. 30-35 million people who would simply want to use their own language properly. Exit Apple’s iPhone…

Next stage was Windows Mobile based smart phones; after all, it claims to be Unicode based! And there are some very sexy models out there these days (like, the HTC Touch Pro or Samsung’s Omnia), which try to compete with the iPhone. So I had a look. Using an English model the system gives you the possibility to use a virtual keyboard, and this indeed gives the option of using a “symbol” pad containing all kinds of characters including my Hungarian ones. A little bit awkward but, well, one can live with it. So, for a moment, I thought I was sold! But then came the shock: there is no way one can get a Windows Mobile phone with an English operating system in the Netherlands! Providers can give you Dutch systems only. To add insult to injury, for some reason or other, the Dutch system does not include that extra symbol key pad. (Why?) Ie, even if I accepted to use a Dutch system, it would not be usable. Exit all Windows Mobile devices…

My next target was Nokias E90. A slightly older concept than these sexy new breed of smart phones, no touch screen, no animation but, after all, who really cares if otherwise it does the job? It is sold as an upgrade of the old 9300i (where I had no problem with those characters), so I expected to have all features I was looking for without any problems. Wrong…:-( The E90 (ie, Symbian S60, the operating system) indeed offers you a way to type in accented characters. But, as a default, only the Western ones… Ie, no problem typing in œ, or ç, but no ű or ő (or characters like ř, č, ł, to refer to non-Hungarian ones, too). Ie, the E90 is actually a step back compared to its predecessor, where typing in all these characters was not a problem.

Dead end? Well, almost. Thanks to my colleague, Steven Pemberton, we found out that Symbian gives you the possibility to switch languages via what it calls “writing aids”. This changes the available character set. The models sold in the Netherlands have English, Dutch, and… Romanian. Why Romanian I have no idea. But I was lucky: although the Romanian language does not use ű or ő, it so happens that there is a significant Hungarian minority living in Romania, so the character set for Romanian included those two characters, too. Ie, I was off the hook, but that was shere luck, not design. If I want to type in a, say, Czech character (eg, if I buy a new CD of Dvořak) then, well, I will have to do some copy paste:-( But I had no choice so, after all, I decided to live with that, and I am now the happy owner of a Nokia E90. Story ends.

Don’t take me wrong. For a bunch of other things the E90 is a very very good smart phone, has a much faster processor than the 9300i, Web access is really a breeze (it uses Safari, afaik), it looks and feels great. Ie, it serves my purpose after all. But I dream of a time when internationalization is not a pain but a natural part of these devices (or any other device, for that matter)…

Come ha spiegato Steve Ballmer, Zune permetterà l'utilizzo del negozio online Zune Marketplace. I clienti potranno scaricare contenuti e canzoni direttamente dal loro telefonino Windows. L'azienda di Steve Jobs agendo in anticipo ha raggiunto un monopolio nel settore dei contenuti che sarà difficile intaccare.

I tentativi non mancano. Da ultimo Nokia, che ha presentato in questi giorni Tube. Con il modello 5800 l'azienda finlandese ha deciso di puntare su un target prettamente giovanile. Nokia ha raggiunto un accordo con alcuni delle maggiori case discografiche per fornire il servizio "Comes With Music", che sarà inaugurato il 16 ottobre nel Regno Unito e disponibile anche su altri modelli Nokia. Il servizio permetterà di scaricare senza limiti musica sul pc e trasferirla sul cellulare.

So, we finally hear of something to up the bench mark against the iPhone and Google Android.

Steve Balmer confirmed today with CIO Magazine that Microsoft are to start making a Zune player for Windows Mobile. Excellent!

Today's announcement that "the Zune software will be ported to and be more important not just with the hardware but on the PC, on Windows Mobile devices, etc", is just great.

We see Microsoft gearing up for a much rounder media experience with additional ongoing development around the XNA Framework, wherein games will run on XBOX 360, Windows, Zune, and Windows Mobile. XNA Studio 3 (Still in Beta) is currently being re-geared to include support for Zune too - cool!

Will Zune features be available in Windows Mobile 7? Certainly CNET announced last week that Windows Mobile 7 has been seriously delayed... it sounds like they are possibly very busy at the drawing board right now.

I await in anticipation...

The smartphone market saw a huge bump in interest with Apples iPhone, and Google will be following through with their Android platform later this month. Do we need another player? I think so, but HP has been here before, and I'm not really sure why they left.

Time will tell if this new WinMo handset will sell of course, but I look forward to more details.

die tasten werden vergrößert über dem finger angezeigt daher eignet sich dieses keyboard sehr gut zum stylus freien schreiben mit den fingern.

leider gibt es keine deutsch unterstützung lediglich englisch und französisch wird angeboten. das kann sehr schnell nerven wenn man deutsche wörter schreibt und zb englische eingefügt werden  - daher zuerst mal lange auf die enter taste klicken(ein weiteres menü erscheint). links opt. auswählen - enable suggestion/enable auto-correction  ausschalten.

This is the first time that I can remember Ballmer specificially admitting the company had some interest in developing some type of "Zune phone." All his previous comments, as far back as April of last year, have indicated the company had no interest.

I'd be willing to be the widespread success of the iPhone has changed that, and now with other competitors such as Nokia also moving to compete, not at least attempting to compete may be a bad idea for Microsoft.

Let us be clear here though: Microsoft is not going to develop or manufacture this phone themselves. But if these statements are to be taken at its face value, it sees to indicate Redmond will not stand in the way of any manufacturer who may be interested in launching a Zune phone.,

Ja, auch Leute in einem Alter von 40+ spielen :) Ich schau mir aber auch Filme auf diesem tollen Gerät an. Ich freu mich schon auf's neue Modell, dass ja bald kommen soll.

Platz Nr. 3: HTC Shift
Dieser UMPC ist mein ständiger Begleiter: Messaging-Zentrale, E-Mail Client, vollwertiger Laptop (naja 3D-Spiele gehen nicht wirklich, aber dafür wurde er ja nicht gebaut). Ohne den Shift geh ich nicht ausser Haus...

Und mein persönlicher Mega-Flop: Apple iPhone 3G
Ja, auch ich renne mit sowas herum - leider. Eigentlich bin ich in meiner Firma für den Hardwareeinkauf zuständig, jedoch hat ein Kollege abgewartet bis ich mal gerade nicht greifbar war und hat unsere komplette Firma mit diesem "MP3-Player mit Telefonfunktion" ausgestattet. Seither kann ich mit gutem Gewissen "schlecht" über das Telefon reden :) Zugegeben, die Steuerung und das Display wissen zu faszinieren, hingegen - auch wenn es uns die Marketingabteilungen von Apple und Co. glauben machen wollen - ist es als Businessgerät mehr wie ungeeignet. Warum? Kurzer Auszug: keine Aufgaben, kein Notizensync, Kalender vernichtet die Outlook-Kategorien, keine ordentliche PIM-Anwendung, kein Naviprogramm (zumindest noch nicht) obwohl GPS eingebaut, kein "copy & paste", kein.... viele "kein's"! Und so hab ich jetzt sowas wie einen zweiten iPod herumliegen, wo dauernd Kunden anrufen :) Für mein "daily business" kommt ausschließlich der Touch Diamond zum Einsatz!

Aquellas personas que me siguen por Twitter se habrán enterado de que he estado estos días probando un dispositivo basado en Windows Mobile, algo que para un palmero como yo es un verdadero sacrilegio. Sin lugar a dudas la compra de un smartphone basado en WM es la peor decisión de compra que he tomado en mi vida. No había tenido la oportunidad hasta ahora de sentir en carne propia lo nefasto que es el sistema operativo de Microsoft. Nefasto desde la configuración para la sincronización del PC con el smartphone, hasta el propio manejo del móvil. Incluso aplicaciones que llevo usando años, como Agendus, bajan de nivel hasta los infiernos cuando las utilizas en WM. No encuentro ni un sólo aspecto en el que WM supere a PalmOS. Y lo digo desde la perspectiva del usuario final, sin entrar en tecnicismos, que al fin y al cabo es lo que verdaderamente importa. Y estoy comparando WM 6.0 con la última versión de PalmOS, que seguramente tiene 2-3 años de antiguedad. Por este motivo, NO COMPREN NINGÚN DISPOSITIVO BASADO EN WINDOWS MOBILE.

Sé que no hay muchas opciones en estos momentos, salvo Blackberry y Symbian (a medio plazo iPhone y Android), pero estos son SO's que no he probado, así que no puedo hablar de ellos. Sí que os digo que a veces es mejor tirar de un móvil sencillito y acompañarnos de un buen PDA a la vieja usanza. Si algún amigo vuestro tiene un aparato basado en Palm, decidle que os lo preste un par de días, y luego me contáis las diferencias. Os aseguro que son más que abismales.

Me cuesta mucho creer como el poder de negociación de Microsoft, auspiciado por fabricantes de hardware, algunos de software y prácticamente la totalidad de empresas de telecomunicaciones, han conseguido destruir un SO mil veces superior a WM. No tengo información de Nova, el nuevo SO de Palm. Incluso hay quien habla de que sería un paso atrás. Que Palm debería centrarse en fabricar buenos PDAs y trabajar sobre Android. Pueden que tengan razón. No hay sitio para 5-6 SO's. En todo caso, la persistencia de WM es un retroceso y una barrera terrible para la Internet móvil que hasta ahora no había llegado a comprender con tanta nitidez. En fin, aunque sea a palos de todo se aprende.

This is the more likely conclusion to the "Zune Phone" rumours, so while we won't be seeing a Microsoft branded handset, we will have the awesomeness of the Zune on our WinMo devices. Here in the UK, Zune's are pretty much just a great sounding myth so this should give me a chance to leave the ipod at home once and for all!

Steve gave no word on timescale, but could this be the "new Media Player" expected in WinMo 7?!

HTC recently release an upgrade for HTC Touch Cruise PDA Phone. This upgrade to WM6.1 also fixes some of the bugs in the Touch Cruise.

• Bluetooth Headset: It may happen that you cannot hear anything when using Bluetooth headsets (Jabra JX10, Jabra BT500 or Samsung WEP 150) even when it has already successfully reconnected with the Touch Cruise.
• Default Onscreen Keyboard: It may happen that the device will not remember the last onscreen keyboard used. Before, the onscreen keyboard always defaults to the Touch Keyboard.
• Title Bar: It may happen that the Title Bar disappears when you go back to the Home screen.
• Camera Viewfinder: It may happen that the viewfinder is cut when you open a Powerpoint file and then tap Options.
• GPS Mode: It may happen that the display becomes “abnormal” after taking a picture in GPS mode and then going into Suspend/Resume mode.
• FM Radio Speaker/Headset Mode: It may happen that the FM Radio program uses the incorrect output mode (Speaker or Headset) before the application launches.
• TouchFLO Setting: It may happen that the TouchFLO setting does not appear in the Settings > System tab.
• TomTom in Home Screen: It may happen that TomTom does not show in the Home screen.

This notion was slightly challenged last year when Apple released the iPhone. I was tempted. Then again it was a tightly closed system unlike Palm OS so I never really came to like the idea. Even with the Apple App Store out it is still just a hype for me.

Then Palm came up with Treo Pro. It seems Palm is few years later to the game but still HTC made Treo Pro is a one marvelous device, famous full QWERTY Treo keybord with iPhone style. There is one glitch though, it does't run my famous Palm OS but Windows Mobile. The bottom line is I don't need a palm which runs other than Palm OS.

So the problem persists, if I want to upgrade my phone and it has to be Win Mobile, then here comes the beauty I want. New HTC Touch HD. Showen above next to iPhone, it has double the resolution to the given same iPhone size. It is the best screen a mobile phone has seen it. Being a graphics guy whopping 480X800 pixel LCD is a music to my eyes. Reviews seems all ok so far except the Windows Mobile 6.1. So when it hits the road next November 2008, I am sure it will be a dream device I would want to own next.

CIO editor Martin Veitch interviewed Steve Ballmer, Microsoft CEO at Microsoft’s London conference “Technologies to Change Your Business: How Customers Are Implementing Tomorrow’s Strategies Today”.

During a lengthy interview, Steve Balmer was asked to justify developing the Zune media player.

CIO: Why has Microsoft developed Zune?

Ballmer: At the end of the day, one of the big trends is that all content is going digital. And if we don’t have the software and services that are useful, helpful and valuable for the consumption of music and video, we are sort of not really a player.

Now, we built the Zune hardware with the Zune software - and what you’ll see more and more over time is that the Zune software will also be ported to and be more important not just with the hardware but on the PC, on Windows Mobile devices, etc.

After many rumours, this would be the first high-level confirmation that the software is coming to Windows Mobile. While no timescale was given, its likely we will need to wait unti Windows Mobile 7 to see the software on devices.
