美國因為夏天、冬天之間的季節溫差大，很多美國人家中都有溫度控制器。最近一項研究發現，美國家庭的溫度調節器設定習慣，竟然與非洲地區自然環境的氣候相似。
綜合媒體報導，《皇家學會開放科學》（Royal Society Open Science）最近刊登了一項研究，研究團隊在美國37個家庭房屋中設置溫濕度感測設備，每小時都會檢測一次環境溫度與濕度，並在一年後將所有數據送回給團隊，結果發現，美國人家中平均最低溫度是8度C，最高溫度則為36度C。
研究團隊將數據與全球陸地氣候數據進行比較後發現，美國人家庭設置恆溫器的數據，與非洲肯亞等地的自然環境溫度條件幾乎一樣。值得注意的是，非洲其實就是現代人（智人）最早出現的地方。
研究指出，雖然人類在發展過程中學會生火、製作衣服、蓋房子等調節溫度的方式，不過或許人類還是最喜歡過去人類祖先所生活環境下的溫度。
